Two Under 2

Two of everything??

I am sorry if this has been asked already but......My daughter is turning one here in two weeks.   And I am 19 weeks pregnant.  Our kids will be 16 months apart.   Wondering do I need to buy another diaper genie?  Another monitor?  Another diaper Bag?  Two changing pads?  Or anything else?

Thanks

Re: Two of everything??

  • Mine will be 21 months apart, and I am planning on buying another crib, changing table and diaper genie to keep upstairs (ours is currently on the main floor where DS and I hang out).  We already have an extra monitor, but I really hope to get by with one diaper bag.  I plan to keep a large one in the car stocked with extra outfits and extra everything, and carry my smaller one with me with diapers, wipes, and snacks.

One thing I learned with DS is that you don't have to have everything right at once.  It's ok to have the baby and then see what you need (or don't).

  • My advice is to wait until DC arrives and then buy as you need.

I doubt you need two diaper bags cause that is just more to carry.  I only use one bag for both but do keep their extra outfits in seperate ziplock bags inside so its easy to tell apart.  They both wear the same size and even though one is a girl and one is a boy I have found my mom or other people to get their clothes mixed up.

I have a PNP on one floor and a full changing table on another.  But I only have one diaper pale cause I cloth diaper and its important that the smell is in one place.  I would fear having two diaper genies cause you have to wait until they are full to toss and I have heard that they are not super good at keeping the smell.  I would hate to have 2 half full diaper pales sitting in my house.  Yuck.  I wash my CDs every night cause I worry about smells.

We do have 2 cribs but they are both lifetime cribs.

The only real thing we needed when DS came from the hospital were diapers, onesies, and some Sleep and Play outfits.

  • I got an extra camera for out MobiCam. We use 1 diaper pail, I stopped using a diaper bag because with 2 kids it is too much, I change them both on the floor.

We bought nothing except a double stroller. Moved C to a twin bed at 20m and kept J in a PNP.

We have a 4 level house and just had diapers and wipes on each level or we just go upstairs.

  • Mine are 16 months apart too.  The only thing I have double of is cribs.  I got a double stroller and I have yet to get an additonal monitor.  DS slept in our room until almost 5 months and he crys loud so I have not got another.  DD is almost 2 now so I may just put her monitor in DSs room and not get another.  I had a big diaper bag so I just added DSs diapers and a change of clothes and that was it.  Can you put the diaper genie in the hall between rooms.  We put our can there and it works well.
  • Mine will be further apart but I wouldn't think you need two of everything at all.

    We're planning on:

    a double stroller

a bigger diaper bag (to accomodate snacks and a change of clothes for toddler, and all the baby paraphanelia and my stuff - i think the ski phop double)

a wrap so I can have hands free to work or play with DS when the baby needs to be held

a swing since we didn't have one to begin with

some lighter weight receiving blankets since baby will be born in summer and DS was born in winter.

a nice teether since DS' is now in his keepsake box

a baby bath - we gave DS' away when we were done with it.

and then we'll probably get DS different furniture and leave the nursery alone, he's in a toddler bed now so he really only needs a dresser or something to store clothing.

oh and a rug for the nursery since we're having a girl and DS's current rug will go with him - it is blue.

  • No, you don't need 2 of everything and don't need 2 of most things.  Buy a bigger diaper bag if the one you have now won't cut it (I used the One Step Ahead back pack and it was amazing).  I moved the diaper champ to the hall bathroom as I rarely used the changing table.  You won't be changing two kids at once so you only need one changing pad.  We did get a second monitor.  Most things can be resused as your older DD will outgrown a lot of the things that baby will then start using.
