Good evening ladies,
Sorry for the late start, but lets get the second instalment of our no cry check in started.
We can support each other by sharing our current sleep logs, challenges, and successes.Elizabeth Pantley's website has great PDF's for logging sleep and bedtime routines. https://www.pantley.com/elizabeth/links/3.htmlHere's the link to last week's check in: https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/29303614.aspx
Re: No Cry Check In
We are seeing progress. We started 9 days ago with a strict bedtime routine and working on the Pantley pull-off. We are doing great with the bed-time routine.
I have also seen success with nursing with the light on so that he doesn't fall asleep nursing, then when he is done I turn out the light and rock him until he is almost asleep and then put him in his crib and pat his back until he falls asleep.
The first 3 nights like this, with the earlier bed-time, he woke up less than an hour later and then every 1.5-2 hours after that. On the 4th night he slept for 3 hours the first time and then was up every 1.5-2 after that and that is how it has stayed.
So, he's still getting up 5x/night and wants to nurse. And I'm nursing him. I'm trying the PPO but honestly, most of the time I fall asleep in the rocking chair and wake up to him pulling off after he's fallen asleep. So, I'm not really doing very well at breaking the suck-to-sleep association.
This next week that needs to be my new focus. Now that we have bed-time down, I will work on not getting him to fall asleep on the boob in the middle of the night. Anyone have any tricks for staying awake while you're nursing?
Ooh, can I join in? I've read the book and done the first set of logs. i admit I've gotten lazy and we haven't actually written out a sleep plan. We began bed-sharing full time the last two weeks just to catch up on sleep (LO does so well in the bed all night) and so I've neglected the plan. I am going to figure one out for tomorrow though (I promise) and will have something to contribute next time
But we have done the pantley pull off to get him to fall asleep not on the breast and so far it's helping!

That sounds like great progress! Our naps are exactly 45 minutes long. Its absolutely maddening!
Our sleep cycle is also 45 minutes. When can we expect a longer nap cycle? I would love for DD to be able to nap at least an hour before waking!
Have you tried what Pantly suggests about catnappers? We did and it took sometime but helped immensely. Right before the 45 minutes (or however long they always sleep, in my case it was 30 minutes), so at like 40 minutes in, sit outside the room, or wherever s/he is sleeping, then immediately when you see any movement like they are about to wake up, pat, rub, whatever you can do to get them to settle back down. If you have to pick up, keep it quiet and nurse/rock (or whatever works for your baby) them back to sleep. Sometimes it would take up to 20 minutes to calm him back down to go back to sleep, but then I would get another hour or more out of him and now he is taking 1-2 hr naps regularly. Not every nap, but much much more often. HTH!
Okay...here is our first log for the check-in. I'm sorry it is so late. We have had a rough few nights at our house. Victoria has some seasonal allergies and a lot of congestion. Her third nap on Monday (which sometimes doesn't happen) lasted over 2 hours. Poor baby- she needed the rest.
