My pediatrician said I should do either rice cereal or oatmeal first and then move on to veggies. My BFF's pediatrician said to also give the her baby barley cereal. Has anyone else been told to do this?
I was sticking to cereals for the first month, so I figured I would cover them all. I also saw whole wheat at the store. Is that for later on?
Re: Barley Cereal??
I was told to do the 4 cereals first.
we did rice, oatmeal - then moved onto foods mainly because I couldn't find the other 2.
I finally found wheat cereal. But still haven't seen barley.

We were told we could use rice, oatmeal, and barley, though she gave a disclaimer that many babies don't like barley, and that rice can be binding.
We tried rice for 3 days, and he was taking longer to poop during the day, which was preventing him from eating much early in the day due to poop cramps, which was resulting in two nighttime feedings instead of one. So we stopped rice for now.
We had day 2 of oatmeal today, and so far so good.
I haven't decided if we will bother with Barley or not.
ETA: I googled, and it appears that Gerber and BeechNut both make a Barley cereal

I am doing a week of each right now and trying to stretch the cereal out to 5 months. He liked the rice, but he LOVES the oatmeal. Yeah, I saw that they have barley, but it is hard to find and maybe it is gross. I think I'll go to Whole Foods and see what they have to offer.
