Odd traditions you plan on passing down?

Just wondering if anyone has any odd traditions they plan on passing down to their LO?

My daddy used to sing me to sleep every night with the song "Little Bird, Little Bird".  It's actually from the musical Man of La Mancha. Seems like an odd song to sing to a baby, but he knew all the words from singing it in high choir.

I plan on singing it to my LO every chance I get:) I know it's not a lullaby but I love it!

The link is for a cover of the song in case you are interested:)

  • My dad used to make this noise when he was tring to comfort one of us crying children when we were little. I have cought myself making the noise when my youngest brother was little. It'll just be a thing I do when baby cries I can hear me now.
Your little hands wrapped around my finger and its so quiet in the world tonight Your little eye lids flutter cause your dreamin so I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light To you everything's funny, you've got nothing to regret I'd give all I have hunny, if you could stay like that Oh darling dont you ever grow up, dont you ever grow up, just stay this little Oh darling dont you ever grow up dont you ever grow up, it could stay this simple I wont let nobody hurt you, wont let no one break your heart, no one will desert you Just try to never grow up imageimage Pregnancy Ticker Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

  • this isn't a tradition I'm passing down but my Dad is passing it down.

When my dad was a kid and he visited his grandpa, his grandpa used to say, "oh, I didn't know you were coming!  I just picked the money off of my  money tree!  But since you're here I'll share some with you!"  He had a stick tree in the back yard that he called the money tree and gave my dad change when ever he visited!

When I told my parents the news of my pregnancy the first thing out of my dad's mouth was, "I better start saving money for the money tree!"  He's so excited to do that with my LO.

    That is just too sweet!

  • Probably make up strange songs about LO.  My mom, and my grandparents would do this all the time.  Every time I would see my grandpa, I'd walk in the door and he'd start singing "Andrea Doria, don't spit on the flooria, use the cuspadoria".
  • I hadn't thought of any traditions but with your story it reminded me how my mom used to always sing I'm gonna wash that man right out of my hair from South Pacific when ever we were in the bath.  I'm sure I will do that cause I do it to my dog now. LOL!

Awww.. thanks!  When my dad told me this I started crying.  He told me that every grandpa should have a money tree!

  • All of the traditions I can think of are Christmas/holiday related! We always had a tiny gift hidden in our tree, and we had to open it last. When we got older the little gifts were nice jewelry and things like that. It seems little and insignificant, but it was special to us :-)
