Tahoe with toddlers?

DH told me that for his birthday that he wanted to take us (and the kids) to the snow. While that sounds really fun, logistically, if you have done this, how did you make it work? Did you rent a cabin? Stay in a hotel? Did you stay on the north shore or south shore? What kind of activities (other than playing in the snow) worked for your family?

I'm kind of nervous because this will be our first overnight trip together. I think that they might be ready for it but the question is, am I? I guess more information on what worked for everyone might put my mind at ease. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Tahoe with toddlers?

  • we go up to South Lake at least a couple times a year. We usually stay in a cabin with family but have also stayed at harrahs/harvey. Staying at a cabin is fun & relaxing and you can go out in the yard to play in the snow/sled. We take K to the arcade in harrahs/harveys, ride on the gondola or ice skate. Theres ice skating at the Marriots shopping center and theres also a theater there too! This is also where the gondola is.?

When we stay in the cabin we watch movies, play video games and lots of board & card games.?

The pool is usually open if you stay at a hotel, as is the hot tub so bring your suits if this sounds fun! ?

We LOVE tahoe - so beautiful & fun & relaxing!!?

  • My parents have a place in south shore that we stay at.  When traveling with the kiddos I love having a place with a kitchen vs staying at a hotel.  It makes it easier for meals/naps/snacks etc.

When we went to Tahoe right after Christmas this year Emmy was plenty entertained by being in the snow.  She was out there for hours and luckily having a house to be at she would come in, play indoors for a bit then head out again.

  • We do about 4 or 5 trips to Tahoe every year with friends and family and always get a cabin.

Ditto's Tri-reader about the kitchen. While grocery shopping may not sound fun, preparing meals and having snacks readily available has been easier and less costly for us.

Also another nice thing about cabins is they usually come with a washer/dryer. Nice to be able to throw wet snow clothes in the dryer, let the kids rest and when they are dry send them out to play again. Wink You guys will have a blast!
