We went for a follow up today (Henry has RSV) and my pedi. continues to make me love her...
We mentioned how worried we were about him in the middle of Saturday night and said we were talking about the possibility of having to go to the ER. She told us that if that ever happens again, to page her and she will meet us at her office so that we don't have to go into the ER unless it's REALLY necessary!
And now my question...She told us to keep Henry elevated while sleeping to help him breathe better. She said to let him sleep in his car seat as much as possible since it is a good angle for him. Isn't this frowned upon? (She also said to use the swing, bouncy seat etc. if we wanted, but that the car seat was perfect.)
Re: AWing my pedi & a question
Boy I don't know - I've seen people post on these boards that it's BAD to let baby sleep in a carseat. But somehow it's OK to let them ride in one.... hmmm....
I think you want to make sure the carseat isn't propped up at all - like don't put the handle behind it to prop it so it becomes more upright. I think that's where you could run into baby's head possibly flopping forward to where they can't breathe. But I am not sure!! I'll be interested to see what others have to say.
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
She really is great...and Henry LOVES her (giggles and smiles at her every time he sees her!) Her office is in Wall Twp. on Rt. 138
I think that the carseat sits at a different angle in the base than it does just on the floor. At least mine does - the little gauge on the side shows you the angle.
I think if she recommended it while he's sick, it's probably okay. Just use your mommy judgment.
My pedi rec'd the carseat when DS has a cold too. We have used it a few times.
I have heard not to let them sleep in it all the time because it can lead to a flat spot on their head, but I think just when he's sick its OK.
