For those of you with dogs, will the dogs be allowed to go in the nursery? Ever? During the day only and locked out @ night? Will you vaccuum/sweep/clean the nursery more often if the dogs are allowed in?
If you have a dog trainer, what does your trainer say about letting dogs in the nursery (and problems with aggression if shutting them out)?
Re: Dogs in nursery?
I have two dogs (lab and boxer) and I plan on letting them go in the nursery. They have been going in there ever since my DH finished it in September. We will clean it up as much as we usually do other rooms pretty much every day.
My dog is a part of my family, so yes he will be allowed in the nursery.
I will most likely vacuum more once she is here anyways.
Our 2 chocolate labs will be let in. We already let them in the room now to get them familiar with everything that's in it. We just vacuum it like we would with any other room.
We are thinking about putting a gate up at night so that they can see in the nursery but that they won't wake the baby up while he's sleeping. But since he'll spend the first month or so in our room (where the dogs sleep now) we may not even need a gate.

We have two dogs. Most of the time the door is closed to the nursery but it used to be a computer room so they were in and out all the time. I will definitely have to vaccum at least one maybe two more times (they are hairy dogs!). They will probably be allowed in when the door is open.
My dogs have been around my nephew from the time he was 2 weeks old and never showed any aggression/jealousy etc. They were curious at first but then eventually went on to mind their own business.
We've been letting ours go in and explore. (We set it up early so they had time to get used to the change.) We've been training them that it's a quiet space.
I clean it as much as I clean the rest of the house. I generally vacuum 4 times a week.

We have a shih tzu and don't plan on keeping her out - I don't think she'll have much interest in going in there anyways. If anything, I'd shut the door to the nursery when none of us are home - we'll keep it open at night so we can hear the baby.
She doesn't shed much so we won't vacuum/dust/sweep in there (due to her) any more than our other rooms. Unless the baby shows signs of being allergic or something.
We have two labs and they are going to be allowed in the nursery. We already keep the door open and don't have a problem with them going in and out. Not sure about nighttime yet, DD will be sleeping in a bassinet in our room for the first little while so we will see how everything goes (one dog sleeps in our room, the other tends to sleep on the main floor).
We don't have a dog trainer to ask but we are all going to be living together in the whole house so I figure that the dogs might as well be allowed in the nursery too. As for cleaning, we will wipe down surfaces that are dog reach with vinegar (cleaning product of choice in our house) and using the swiffer sweeper to handle any tumbleweeds that crop up. We will do a good vacuuming every couple of days or as needed.
I would love to hear what other people are doing as well!
This! Are dogs don't really shed so I am not worried about hair plus I am a vacuum alcoholic . I want the dogs to feel comfortable around the baby and get used to the idea of change. I have caught my one dog sleeping on the floor in there already...I think they sense change is coming!!!
My dogs will be allowed in the nursery. I want to keep their routines/lives as normal as possible, and they both like to sleep in there, so I don't plan to change that. Plus, I'll be sleeping in there too
BUT, I won't let them in there with the baby when we are not in the room, at least a first until they get used to her.
I want my dog to be as comfortable as possible in the nursery. She's been afraid of that room since we did it so we try to coax her into it when we are there so she can get used to it. I won't leave my dog alone with a newborn, but once we know she can be 100% trusted I have no problem with her still having her same house roaming privileges as she does now.
As for cleaning, I will vacuum it as often as I do the rest of the house, same goes for dusting. I know some people thing animals are just dirty but I'm not one of them. We keep our dog groomed and for the most part she is always clean.
We have two dogs and they will both be allowed in the nursery whenever they want. We won't need to vacuum any more than usual because we already vacuum almost every day (we have the Roomba iRobot so it runs on its own - we just press "Clean" and it does all the work for us
Best invention ever!).
Our dogs usually stay in whatever room we are in. Our female (English bulldog) will go upstairs to our bedroom sometimes to sleep in front of the vent if our male is "hogging" the one downstairs lol but other than that they don't wander into any rooms unless they're following one of us. So I can't imagine them going into the room much unless we're in there.
Our cats are part of our family, but they are not permitted in our bedroom, nor will they be permitted in LO's room. My cats are nocturnal, and quite active, and like to be around people, so I'd rather not have them keep LO up. Second, they are extremely furry (I have two Ragdolls), and having two hair-free rooms is worth it to me.
We actually met with our trainer to discuss this before hand. Our lab is extremely well behaved, but he is still a puppy and has a hard time understanding boundaries. We also have a Jack Russell that likes to mark things, and we didn't want this to be an issue when we brought the baby home.
He suggested allowing them in the room, but make sure that you train them to wait at the door until you give them permission to enter.Have them wait at the door, weather you are sitting in the rocker, standing at the changing table, crib or wherever until you give them permission to enter.
He also suggested they know the OUT command so if you want them to leave at any point you can just say out and they will leave. We have been practicing with them for the last couple weeks and it has worked great for us.

Our family is complete!
My golden retriever, husky mix and doxie will be allowed in the baby's room most of the time. We've had the nursery set up since August to get them used to the smells and new arrangement of the bedroom. We do have a baby gate, so if we choose not to have them in there we will just baby gate that room so we don't have to shut the bedroom door.
I think my three need to embrace this new "pack member." They have been inquisitive about my growing belly and all of the new things in the house. They seem to do pretty well around my niece and nephews, so I think they will be okay. I just need to keep an eye on the big boys, since they sometimes don't know their own strength/size.
With two large dogs that shed a lot (even after using the Furminator), we will just clean that room as much as we clean the other rooms on our main floor. Dog hair is a constant in our house.

No...as soon as we converted the office to the nursery we trained our dog to not come in the room. He just sits/lays by the door. He's also not allowed in the kitchen, bathroom, or on any furniture... including beds. He's a border collie, so he sheds a lot.
Same here, but only b/c we have an old, grouchy, terrified-of-her-own-shadow cat, so the rambunctious Doberman doesn't suit her... So we have a duplex where kitty resides upstairs-- but not in the nursery-- and doggie lives downstairs.
Even if we could let the dog upstairs, we'd keep the nursery pet-free. Not for agression reasons, but just the hair. She's a crazy shedder. Oh, and she'd try playing with every single one of DD's toys. By "play", I mean "eat"....
