(XP) Possibly dumb: Laundry Detergent Question

I posted this on Nurseries & Baby Gear but wanted to see if anyone here had thoughts/opinions:

What brand of detergent are you using for baby stuff??  I know it should be a dye/perfume free detergent but do you really **NEED** to get the "Dreft" brand or can you use a different (& more cost effective) brand?

Re: (XP) Possibly dumb: Laundry Detergent Question

  • I know you can use Dreft but then you could also use any other detergent that's free of dye and perfume.  I think All Free and Clear is pretty cheap.

  • The detergent ALL has one called All Free and clear. it seemed to work great for DS

  • I'm using All Free & Clear for LO's clothes as well as ours.
  • Arm and Hammer is good too.
  • Doesn't Dreft have perfume? I used all free and clear for awhile. Then just started throwing DD's stuff in with mine.
  • I used all free and clear instead of Dreft for DD#1. Much cheaper!!

  • This is our first, but we're using Arm & Hammer Free now.  I just switched over completely once I started doing loads with baby stuff in it--it wasn't that much more expensive than our regular detergent anyways.

  • I just ordered some samples of this  www.rockingeensoap.com  from a friend that suggested it.  I'll let you know:)

  • I've always used All Free and Clear or Arm and Hammer Free. Dreft made dd break out really bad. It is NOT perfume free. It is scented. It just has a baby scent instead of Spring Meadows or Mountain Fresh or whatever "grown-up" detergent smells like. It is not good for sensitive skin. DS may not have sensitive skin, but I'm not gonna test it. We are happy to all use the Free and Clear stuff. Cleans the clothes and no adverse reactions.
  • Dreft actually has a lot of perfume in it!  You can try any free and clear detergent.
  • I washed all of DDs stuff in All (Free and Clear). I continued to use it until the bottle was empty. Then I washed a few items in our detergent to see if she had a reaction at all...which she didn't. So, I have been washing her clothes in our detergent (but still seperate from our clothes) since then.

  • Dreft is dye free but has tons of perfume.  I used it on DD's clothes in the beginning because I thought that's what I needed to do.  She had HORRIBLE eczema so I switched to All Free and Clear (per the pedi's instructions).  It works well, is cheap, and she's never had a reaction to it.

  • I have sensitive skin so we've always used any free & clear laundry detergent, usually All Free & Clear, but DH just bought Tide Free so we're using that.

  • I used All Free and Clear with my last one, much cheaper than Dreft.  It worked well so I will probably use it again this time. We just used it on all our clothes, so we didn't have to worry about separating.
  • we're using all free & clear-- our grocery store had it on sale for $4 yesterday so i bought two of the 'normal' size (not sure how many oz.'s).  sure beats dreft! :)

  • I have very sensitive skin, so I already use a laundry detergent that's dye/perfume free. I won't be buying dreft.
