UMM Bump drama much?!!

I had to repost this, because this hit a damn nerve for some reason... our fellow 0-3 momma who is pregnant with #2, Irish Twins, is getting bashed by some BSC on 1st tri claiming that she shouldn't have gotten pregnant so soon because it can cause death, developmental issues, etc, etc, AND she claims that she needs to read up on attachment issues because she's going to have bonding issues with her current child..

 UMM WTF??

I couldn't help myself, I had to step in and say something...

Re: UMM Bump drama much?!!

  • Ugh...why do people take it upon themselves to act like total douches about something that has nothing to do with them, and yet is very real to the person whose emotions they're stepping all over?

  • I stepped & said something. My little sis & I are Irish twins, & we both turned out great. No health issues & none of that other crap that she was talking about.
  • Ugh! That pisses me off too. I had to respond. Why in the world would you think it was ok to come in and tell someone all those horrible things and try to scare them?

an opinion? um no, you stood up on a soap box and told the poor pregnant lady that essentially she was a dumbass for getting pregnant again and was going to undoubtedly screw up her children with bonding issues... that's not offering an opinion that's being mean and tactless

What's worse, is having an opinion and trying to pass it off as fact.

No it's stupid BSC posters who give their opinion and get a response from the OP that say "I'm not worried" and then decide to post again giving more of their negative opinion that they picked up from articles they have read.

The proper thing to do after your first response would have been to keep the rest of it to yourself.

Actually the proper thing to do would have been to keep it to yourself from the beginning.  Even if you are right (and I don't think you are) then what is the point of telling her that being pregnant again so soon could result in all kinds of complications like stillbirth and miscarriages?

an opinion is stating your opinion and agreeing to disagree. being crazy is repeatedly saying the same thing over and over trying to change someone elses opinion. put on your big girl panties and get over the fact that we think youre crazy.

  • What a douche. And I love how her "professional" article to back up her argument was from IVillage. That's about as good as About.com. LMAO.

""You're a nurse, not a doctor.  This is like saying the receptionist at my vet's office is qualified to make medical decisions on my pets."""

Wait, I'm sorry did she just compare your medical knowledge to a receptionist!!!! And aren't you a pediatric nurse too? Clearly she hasn't heard about nursing school. It's not exactly a cake walk.

haha, yea I know, I told her that I can't wait for her to meet her "receptionist" when she goes into labor... haa I have a feeling there will be a greater appreciation afterward for the nurses in the world.

Yea nursing school, for everyone's info, is the same exact medical curriculum as medical school, it IS medical school, the difference is that a doctor also has a general bachelors degree including classes like English, Speech, etc (which are obviously crucial to medicine LOL) and they do a couple years of residency and training beyond that....

But yea whatever, it will all fall on deaf ears, the woman is clearly crazy...

  • Also did anyone read the article? It talks about 3rd world country where it is harder for infants born close together to survive due to severely harsh conditions and possible maternal starvation with the lack of food and trying to be pregnant so close together. Ok, I'm just gonna go ahead and guess that the pregnant lady is not going to suffer from starvation.

    Direct quote from the article

Nor have there been studies suggesting that wide spacing is advantageous to the sibling relationship. After so many years and hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of studies inquiring into the quality of the parent-infant relationship, it is remarkable that the value of exclusiveness or wide spacing are rarely even addressed, let alone found critical, to an infant?s psychological adjustment.

So her article in the end says that there is no benefit to wider spacing between kids. Is she serious?

Well said. Like it was pointed out on 1st tri, nurses take care of about 95% of the actual delivery process. I only saw the doctor during my delivery twice - once to break my water, and then once when I was almost done pushing to catch the baby, remove the placenta and give me 3 - 4 stitches. After that, I only saw her once the next day when she came in to say congrats and good luck. Other than that, I dealt solely with nurses (oh, and the "baby doctor" came in to check and make sure she had no heart issues), and you know what? I felt perfectly fine with the nurses, because I know for fact that they know what they're doing, as that's what they've been trained for! Doctors usually aren't called in for every little issue like nurses are, so they must be bloody well trained!

  • The funny thing about the stuff that poster is claiming is this:   My Dr. is currently trying to conceive again after having a baby just a couple of months ago.   I guessing that if there were any contraindications whatsoever, she wouldn't be trying yet.   Oh, and her husband is a Dr., as well.    I felt compelled to respond, as well:)
  • All I can say is wow!

  • Wow, what happened to being happy for someone else?

I can hardly believe she compared nurses to receptionists.  Kinda makes you wonder what her educational level is???  Doesn't she realize that physicians DEPEND on the nurses to be their eyes, ears, and the like to provide better care for the patients?  I know that physicians make a lot of their decisions based on what they hear from nurses and other medical professionals.  I work in the medical field too, and I find that they call it a 'medical team' for a reason.  Nurses are goddesses in my eyes!
