Hi ladies! I have mostly been lurking here since summer, but I'm ready to come out and join you because I am FINALLY post-op!
I was diagnosed with fibroids in 2005 when I was 28, but was told I could go ahead and try after I got married in May08 b/c I told my doc I wanted to at least TRY. I had a saline u/s and my cavity looked normal, CD3 b/w, husband had an SA etc. I was ovulating regularly, but nothing. So we decided to go ahead with the myomectomy. It was scheduled for June 5. However, my routine urine test in the hospital on the day of surgery revealed that I was pregnant. Turns out it was ectopic and I had the methotrexate shot on June 11.
We rescheduled for January 2010. We didn't try or prevent Summer/Fall 09.
My biggest fear is that I would wake up without a uterus, because a hysterectomy is always in the equation when having this type of surgery. We knew I had at least 3 very large fibroids, 2 on my left and 1 on my right. My doctor could feel at least one pushing down on my cervix, and though I didn't have a LOT of extra bleeding, I did have discomfort and fatigue.
I had the surgery on Thursday. They removed 23 (twenty three!!) fibroids. The 3 large ones that we knew of were grapefruit sized. I lost a lot of blood and had to have a transfusion, but I have my uterus!! When I was groggy in recovery, it is the first thing I asked my doctor, and I remember just crying and crying. I am so, so happy that door is still open to us.
My doctor said my ovaries and tubes all looked great, which was good news, because I wasn't sure if the ectopic would have damaged/scarred my right tube.
I'm still healing, so nothing is guaranteed, but I'm ready to get going.
Right now the plan is to start TTC in 6-8 week and if I'm not pregnant in 3-4 cycles, to start IUI+Clomid.

I am so glad the surgery was so successful! I had a myomectomy last Tuesday. I had only one fibroid but it was infarcted so I had the same fears of him getting in there & needing to do a hysterectomy. I am still sore as well but grateful this is behind us.
My plan is to start a fresh IVF cycle in April. Good luck to you!!
Thanks everyone!
Sheila, how are you feeling? This is my first full day at home. My mom and husband are great, but I miss those nurses!
