Recommend your favorite paint brands

Behr has a paint with a primer in it that got good reviews from Consumer Reports for low fumes, good coverage, etc. When I looked online in a quick google search, Behr was not well-received.

We've lived here for a year and everything was just painted a neutral color. We'd like to add some color to the baby's room. What's a good brand you can recommend for babies/kids' rooms.

  • We've actually used Behr now in both nurseries and loved it! Just painted baby #2's nursery today with the Behr with primer and it looks great...would highly reccomend it!

  • We've had good luck with Olympic. They have a no VOC version that works great for kids' rooms. DH is the painter in our home and he said the new Behr with primer is pretty good too.
  • I would just make sure it's low VOC...safe for you and baby.

  • We are using Sherwin Williams satin paint in the Duration.  Duration does not need primer and is low VOC.  Duration in satin because it makes for easy clean up when our baby starts touching the walls.

  • i just painted my nursery today with olympic zero VOC paint (lowe's). it took two coats of rolling (which my husband actually did), but it looks great and there are almost no fumes and no lingering paint smell in that tiny, closed off space.
  • We had Behr in our house originally and it was great. When we had the entire house repainted the company recommended Valspar instead and I like it a little better - it seems to wipe off much easier than the Behr did. I think either brand is great, but I would just make sure you purchase one that says easy to clean or wipes clean - I can't think of the terminology that the paint company actually uses.
  • i do all the painting in our house which we moved into right before finding out i was preggo so i've been looking for zero VOC.  i tried a sherwin williams brand first (dont remember which one it is) and it smelled horrible (then again i was in first tri still so that might have contributed to it...).  i ended up going w/ the premium (zero voc) olympic and have stuck with it throughout the house....  even when i used it w/ windows closed and no fan i was perfectly fine!!

  • Benjamin Moore Aura (though you have to paint fairly quick and mind drips, the paint dried fast!) and Sherwin Williams Duration.  Having used both extensively, I prefer SW, it's a bit more forgiving.  Both are low-VOC, and regardless you should keep windows open.  We painted all weekend with windows open and the house fan running, and I felt great.

  • Behr hands down.

We painted the nursery this weekend and it covered in one coat.  We did paint over a light grey though to a light grey/purple, so don't get your hopes up unless you're doing something like that as well.

  • We painted the nursery with the new Behr paint and primer in one from Home Depot in Satin and love it!  It went on really well and is much better then the Benjamin Moore paint we had on our walls before.  Good Luck!

  • We use Benjamin Moore. My dad is a custom home builder and it's all he'll use in his houses. We've always loved it.
  • Sherwin Williams- some are no voc and others are very low voc. Trying to pick out the color is going to be soo hard...
  • I will only use Behr paint.  I have painted a LOT of rooms (Valspar, American Tradition, Behr, etc.) and Behr has the best coverage of any of them.
