    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Concerned about baby putting all of the kittehs' toys in his/her mouth.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? I can't imagine a house without furbabies!

    We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name.
We have 3 cats (not living with us). Zeus, 4, Hercules, 3 1/2 and Turkleton, 6-7 months. :)

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?
If we're living with them when we have LO, we'll bring an extra blanket around her for the first day/night and then have a friend drop it off at the apartment so the cats can smell her before she arrives.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?
I'm worried that she'll be allergic or that one of the cats might take a swipe at her

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?
They're great companions. I lived on my own 5 hours from home and having a cat was so nice because even tho I was the only human, I wasn't alone - and he was always excited to see me!

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)  We have a 3-year-old Westie named Oscar...he's around 18 pounds or so.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We'll probably try to start incorporating some of the new smells that he'll be experiencing once the baby comes (i.e. baby lotions, etc), but otherwise I'm note sure what we're planning on doing to prepare beyond that.  We'll probably do more research about how to acclimate Oscar to the baby as the due date approaches.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? I'm primarily concerned with Oscar acting out due to jealousy and a possible lack of attention, but I think he'll ultimately be just fine.  He came from a home with 5 children before we adopted him.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?   I grew up with dogs, so I know how fun it can be to have a pet around the house growing up and I hope our daughter experiences the same thing.

  • 1. Dog, Pekeapoo, 5, 10lbs, Roxie

    2. When she has something she's not supossed to and you try to take it from her she growls and gets a bit vicious. We're working on that right now.

    3. Roxie will be jealous but I hope more than anything she's protective of the LO.

    4. The exposure, when my cousins little boys comes over to my house he's terrified of my little Roxie.  Also it's good for a kid to have a furry companion.

    5. Nope.

  • 1. A dog (Bulldog, hound mix), 1 yr old, 45 lbs, Molly/ A maine *** cat 3 yrs old, 12 lbs, Kati/ A kitten (<6 months) 4 lbs?, Nala2. Played videos of babies crying as loud as possible and introducing them to children3. The kitten likes to bite and scratch4. More love and friendship all around

  • 1. Bella Yorkie-Poo - 3, 10lbs &

        Brody Golden-Doodle 2 1/2, 25lbs.

    2.  Nothing yet.  Considering carrying around a baby doll in baby's blanket for a few weeks prior to birth.  Having baby stuff around house after shower so dog's can sniff it out.

    3.  Dogs jumping on baby. Getting into p&p with baby,  Scratching baby.

    4.  Have had dogs around with all my kids when they were little. It helps to introduce gentleness, kindness, etc....

  • 1. dog - chow mix, 3 years old, 34 lbs
2 cats - ragdoll mix, 5 years old, 10ish lbs

    2. i still don't know how to prepare for the baby's arrival. i think i will buy a book about it. i'm most concerned about the dog because she's used to being the center of attention!

    3. i just want the dog to get along with the baby. she has some herding instincts, and i don't want her to try to herd the baby. also, since she's a chow, she gets nervous easily so i don't want the baby to make her nervous!

    4. i loved growing up with pets, and i want my children to have that experience also

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

We have a German Shepherd Dog (Hugo) and a Rottie/GSD mix (Stella). They are 2 1/2 years old, 85 pounds.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

They've each been through two training classes. I also read the book Living with Kids and Dogs...without Losing Your Mind. We are going to try the things recommended in there, like training your dog to stay on a rug in a room, using a rope to create a boundary line, and overall just respecting the fact that the dogs are dogs!

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

Stella sometimes guards things from Hugo. We've been working with her on this, and I don't think she'd ever guard from a baby. We will definitely keep an eye on her and go back to our trainer, if we see any warning signs. Hugo has fear-bitten in the past, and has a high prey drive. I'm concerned for how he will act once the baby is mobile... He loves to chase things (not a person, yet, so far). However, he's been great around our nieces. They were not quite 3 when we got the dogs and are now over 4.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

I never had pets as a child, but my DH did. He has great memories of growing up with his dogs. I feel like my dogs have enriched my life in so many ways, and I'm so excited for my child to have a great relationship with our dogs, too! Plus, I think it teaches children responsibility, respect, boundaries, unconditional love, etc.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

    Shelter dogs rock!!

  • 1.  I have a 3 year old Black lab mix (not sure what the other half is!).  Spike is about 60 lbs.

    2.  Haven't done much yet, but I read that you should start cutting down a bit on the attention you give them.  We just moved into a house in Oct. from a tiny apartment, so he has been getting a less attention because of that (spending a lot of time fixing up the house and being tired from pregn).

    3.  He's very gentle and wouldn't even hurt a person, but he's hyper and jumps up sometimes which is an issue.  Plus I think he's going to be jealous.  I also worry about walks, he isn't great on the leash, esp. if he sees a squirrel or something - that will very difficult when it's just me, him and the baby in a stroller.  Oh yeah, and hair, he sheds like CRAZY and I;m worried about her crawling through all his hair and stuff.

    4.  I'm excited to see him get all protective over the baby.  Plus, I think it's great to have her grow up and not be afraid of dogs - I know tons of people who are.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)Brady, Rhodesian Ridgeback, 83 lbs, 5 years old.  Marley, tabby cat, 8 lbs, 9 years old.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? Our dog has been through several training sessions when he was younger so he's well-trained.  We've booted the cat from our bedroom since we cant to keep the bassinett in there.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?  I won't leave either pet around the baby unsupervised.  No concerns re: the dog, he's great with kids.  The cat is not friendly to every person (he picks & chooses) & has scratched a child before.  I will have to watch him very closely.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?  I don't want my kids to be scared of animals.  I want them to know what loving companions animals can be.  I think it will make them more well-rounded as humans.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!   I think my dog is gonna be the best big brother ever.  I predict he will be SUPER protective of LO, like he is toward me.  He ADORES kids, they are his favorite.

    We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. 2 small dogs (pekingese mix)-see pic in siggy.  8lbs and 11lbs.  Ages 7 and 3.  Libby and Lexi

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? Not too much.  DH may bring something home with baby's scent from hospital when he goes home to let them out.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? My 7 year old pekingese is very jealous.  When I hold the 3 yr old, she tries to get between me and Lexi so I will hold her.  :)

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? I grew up with pets and I can't imagine not having them as part of our family!!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :) Penny - Calico cat, 3 years old, 15 lbs (aka HUGE). 2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We have started transitioning her to an indoor/outdoor cat, so she will be less possessive of the house. Until recently we were in an apartment where she couldn't go outside at all. Now we have a fenced yard, so she can explore a little. She's "iffy" with strangers, so while we think she'll be safe around the baby, it will be good for her to have a chance for some outdoor time to get away. So far it has already made her calmer and happier. Also hoping she'll lose some weight... :)3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? We have had some concerns because she has not been fond when friends have brought their children/babies over. She will be heavily supervised around baby, and if it doesn't look like it will work out, we'll have to find another home for her. We love our kitty, but couldn't accept any scary or threatening situations. 4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? We love that our child can grow up around animals - they're such a joy. Of course, when LO is older, he can learn some of the responsibilities associated with it. But mostly it just makes our house feel more like home. :-) Recently we've discussed getting a dog (another thing that we couldn't have in the apartment), but we're waiting until after baby is born and a little older to seriously consider.
  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)  Siberian Huskey, male, 4 yrs old next month, approx 53lbs, named Kiba (key-ba)

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?  Getting stricker with rules (he's not allowed to play on the stairs anymore, he has to go up/down ahead of us)

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? How Kiba will be with a baby in the house (he's a very hyper dog, hence why he's only 53lbs not the 65lbs he should be regardless of how much he eats)

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? It's a good social interaction for both.  It'll help the dog understand to behanve around little humans & teach the baby to be nice to animals.  We also hope it'll help reduce the chance of the baby becoming allergic to dogs later (supposedly if they're exposed to dogs from the start, they can build up an immunity)

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

Toby: 5 yo German Shorthaired Pointer.  Weight: approx 65 lbs.

Kila: 8-9 yo pit bull.  Weight: approx 65 lbs.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

As of right now, we have set up the crib in advance to give the dogs time to adjust.  We are also following many of the suggestions on this blog: https://www.babiesandbeasts.blogspot.com/ (courtesy of Nestie PittieBoo).

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

Most recently I'm concerned that once LO is eating real food in a high chair, our dogs are going to become the biggest beggars around!  LOL!

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

The responsibilty & respect they can learn from having pets.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!  I love seeing pics of everyone's pets!  Feel free to post them!  Mine are in my siggy (obviously...).

  • 1) we have a 10 year old greyhound, about 70lbs and her name is Destiny. We have a 2 year old cat names kitty

2)We didn't really do anything before DS came, kitty was still really young. We did have a blanket with Ds's sent all over it for the dog.

    3) none

    4) it helps prevent allergies when animals are around from the beginning. DS LOVES our animals and they love him!

    5) never ever trust your animals alone with your little ones. We have never had any issues with our pets, but my IL's dog bit DS a few months ago, and you would NEVER expect them to do it.

  • We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. Fizzcake - mixed breed cat - my first baby!; Chibi aka Chubbs - Bearded Dragon - not furry, but might as well be; Boomhauer - Bloodhound - sweetest face you'll ever see; Ludo - German Shepard/Lab mix - Born deaf, but knows sign language. (And I'm not really sure off the tops of my head what they weigh.)

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We've been teaching them that the nursery is offlimits - it's the only room in the house where they aren't allowed to hang out - and that's only cause of their hair. We've always had a gate so that they can be inside, but confined to one area, but we never really used it until now - now they're learning to spend more time in that part of the house and outside.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Not really - Boomhauer is used to babies (he's been around for the nieces, and is HILARIOUS to watch play with them. For being so big, he's completely a gentle giant. Ludo on the other hand, because she's deaf, is very attached to me, so I'm slightly concerned about jealousy, but am betting that she ends up being protective of the baby)

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? Animals have a way of making everything better - I don't know how, but having them around always makes me smile. I grew up with them, and haven't ever lived without furbabies, and can't imagine my kids not having them around. Also - I think having them around is a great way of teaching children responsibility and caring.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)DH have a miniture yorkie named Gauge. He will be two years old on June 5. He's around 8 lbs right now.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? DH will bring home some blankets that we swaddle LO in so he can get used to LO's scent.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Our puppy is very loving, always giving everyone kisses. I don't want him to be in LO's face licking him a lot. He doesn't bite and isn't aggressive AT ALL, so I'm not worried about that.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? LO will always have a friend to play with.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!  For those that have inside dogs and already have at least one baby, is it true that LO will get used to hearing the dog bark while still in the womb, so when LO arrives, the dog barking won't affect their sleep?

  • 1. 4 1/2 year old pit bull, just under 40 lbs, Lili :)

    2. She has been around all ages of kids since she was 5 lbs and 12 weeks old. We have her trained to always sit and be as calm as possible when kids are around. We have the furniture set up so she can get used to it, and have started teaching her that she is not allowed to play with the baby's toys. We've also recently trained her to sleep in her crate at night. I'm planning to learn more about things we can do.

    3.  I'm worried that Lili is going to eat all of the baby's toys! She loves anything plush.

    4. I didn't grow up with pets, so I'm not sure what it is like, but Lili is like a child to us, and I think she will be almost like a sibling to our child. I think it will just be nice for our baby to have a small warm creature that loves unconditionally and is great to snuggle and hug :)

    5. I am very happy to say that nobody who has met our dog has even suggested the idea of re-homing her when the baby comes! I was worried about arguments we would get just because of the breed, but it seems like people are finally coming around.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

Milo & Zoey - 14 lb, 6 yr old, mini doxies

Sherman - 180 lb, 1 yr old English Mastiff

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

Nothing yet. I would like to get Sherman in some advanced training classes.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

Sherman is quite the shedder and drooler. So, dog hair and slobber all over the LO is definitely a concern. The little ones get very possesive over DH.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

I have friends whose children are scared to death of dogs becasue they were never exposed to them. I am hoping if all experiences go well, my daughter will be love animals like DH and I do. Also, what child doesn't fondly remember their childhood pet?

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

Good luck to everyone with their fur and human babies!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)  Sophie - a 4 year old boston terrier....15 pounds of pure joy

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? Once DH gets home from his business trip, he will take over feeding her.  She's pretty well trained, but she gets demanding when she feels she needs a cookie or its time for an early dinner.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? I hope Sophie doesn't think LO is a new toy and, to be honest, I am afraid the dog will decapitate any plush animal the baby might get.  We're going to have to work on teaching her who's toys are who's.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? Animals are awesome.  I can't imagine my life without Sophie and I know after the initial boundaries are set, they will get along great.

  • 1. Arlo, age 6, Staffordshire/Jack Russell mix, 36 pounds.  Three cats, Curtis, Pepper and Boo, around 8-9 years of age, all between 12-14 lbs.

    2. For the cats, we're putting a screen door on the nursery so that they can satisfy their curiosity without messing with the baby's room (these cats get into things something fierce.)  Dog will have supervised interactions with baby in a non-nervous and as natural manner as absolutely possible.

    3. My concerns are about allergies.  I'm very allergic to cats (they were DH's and I take medication to compensate when I'm not pregnant) and I dunno if that kind of thing is even passed on to your kids, but it'll be something I'm on the watch for.  Also, cleanliness is the major concern, I suppose, and making sure that our very affectionate dog doesn't feel resentful of the baby.

    4. My dog LOVES children.  I'm sure our son will be no different.  :)

    5. If you're really concerned about cats and babies, I really want to suggest the screen door idea that was given to me by my friend.  Screen doors are inexpensive and allow you to keep a view of the baby without opening a door, and allow the cats to look at the baby so that it's not forbidden fruit.
  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

Two boxers, Nico who is 5 and a half and 50 pounds and Tyson who is 4 and 75 pounds. We also have a cat, Jack, who is 18 pounds.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

We've been spending more time on their training to make sure their listening skills are up to par. We've also set the nursery up early so we can work on training them that that is a quiet space not meant for them. We've also introduced baby items one at a time so they can get used to the new things in their space.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

    Getting used to each other.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

I believe a child learns appreciation and respect, instead of fear, for animals by growing up with them.

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

10 month old shepard mix named Zoe

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

working on having her sleep in her own bed, not ours - we're a little behind :)

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

yes, Zoe definitely acts like she is our baby and I know she is going to be very jealous of the new baby. I am more concerned than DH (who thinks it will all work out) - but I hate the idea of her feeling left out, which no matter how much we try to keep giving her attention is going to happen when she is no longer our only 'baby'

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

I loved growing up with dogs - I think its a great experience and I am happy that my children will have that as well

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)
Kona, yellow lab, 7 years, 70 lbs & Baloo, black lab, 6 years, 80 lbs

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?
Both of the woofers have been around my nephew when he was  a baby and our friends bring over their kids all the time. I think this has been great preperation for Bean's arrival. Also, Grandma will be bringing home something with Bean's smell for them to snuff before we come home with her and gage their reaction.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? I really have none besides Baloo lack of body awareness. I know neither pup would intentionally hurt her, but sometimes Baloo has NO idea how large he is.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? The compassion that having pets teaches children. There is something about the bond between kids and their pets that just allows them to be better people.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!
Baloo is in love with this kid already. He snuggles my bump every night (he makes a HUGE effort to get to the bump and snuggle it). And he LOVES it when she kicks his face. Kona is starting to come around too.

  • 1. Boxer, 6 years old, 80ish lbs, Monti. Cat 5 years old, 10 lbs?, Bella

    2. DH will bring home things from the hospital for animals to smell. I want to set the bassinet and pnp up early and teach them that it is not theirs.?

    3. Worried about cat sleeping in baby's things and Monti drooling on everything!! Also about Monti being a begger under LO's highchair :)

    4. Having our children learn to be gentle and learn early about responsibility.?

    5. Monti is amazing with children and babies. As I am the last to have them out of my friends he has been around a lot. He also was an amazing protector today when we were attacked by another dog!! He is the best :) (when he is not whining that is :)

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name.

Though everyone missread me in that last post I DO have a dog, he is a 40lb 6yr old siberian husky,  and I love dogs.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? He's already used to DD.  We let him sleep in her room before she was here.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?  It is difficult to keep her from mauling him with affection, as he gets older he is getting grumpier, so they are not allowed to be unsupervised.  It's also hard to spend enough time with him, he used to be my baby, once DD arrived priorities changed.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?  DD loves him, and they are too cute together.  He is very protective of her and the whole family, which other ppl interpret as aggression lately so no leashless dog parks.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!  I would love to get a cat for DD, but it needs to have a specific personality to fit with her and the dog, and DH is against it until she is a little older.

  • 1. 2 cats (Scout - 7 y/o, around 12 lbs, Aurora - 6 y/o, around 11 lbs), 1 dog (Leo - 5 y/o, 80 lbs, boxer mix)

    2. We let the animals sniff all the new stuff (they were unimpressed overall), then brought home the blanket from the hospital that smelled like DD several days before we actually came home

    3. None really - Leo has always been good around kids, the cats could care less about most people, so I figured they'd be pretty aloof

    4. The smile on DD's face when one comes up to her; she loves to give them kisses although the animals would rather she stay away

    5. As with anything, having pets and kids together are what you make of it - don't ever trust a pet, no matter how beloved or what size, with a child unsupervised and be on your toes for signs of discomfort (Leo does not like a crawling child!!) and you'll have a happy zoo!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)  We have 2 cats. 1 female (5 pounds, 2 years old), 1 male (12 pounds, 3 years old)

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We will put a baby gate on the baby's room so they can't get in the crib, etc. When we have the baby my husband will bring home items from the baby before he comes home. Once we are home we will introduce the baby to the cats like you do with a new cat.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? I'm concerned about them acting out due to jealousy and a possible lack of attention, but I think they will adjust fine. The baby having some kind of reaction to them (illness, etc.)

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?   I grew up with animals and I feel that it is good for children to have animals around. Also, when kids have animals and go to another persons house with animals they aren't scared of them, etc.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

Ginger, 4 year old toy poodle, 5 pounds.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

    Nothing yet....

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

Ginger's going to be very jealous when he comes, but she will likely ignore him. I'm worried that our little boy will be too rough with her when he's older. We won't be able to leave them alone.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

I like to think they'll be best friends, esspecially when he starts sharing his food!

    5. Anything else you wanna share!
Our little boy has started kicking her when she lays on my lap, but I don't think she realizes it yet.

  • 1. Nala: Great Dane/Grey Hound, 70lbs, 3 1/2 years old; Buddy: English Springer Spaniel, 45lbs, 13 or 14.

    2. With Nala I have been playing with a couple of toys that we received and will continue with that. Bring home a blanket when the baby arrives with the babies smell on it, playing baby sounds here shortly to get her used to a baby. If she plays rough or gets too excited she know's the word gentle and immediatly stops what she is doing when the word is said, she know's the word out of any room and will not come back in once told, she knows place and can figure out where place is after two tries even in new places-Buddy is getting really old and probably wont make till the baby arrives, he's been a great rescue, but close to his time.

    3. Concerns: With Nala about 6 months ago or so she started to be protective of socks and other items so we are working on that. She can also jump at loud noises so we are working on that as well. Otherwise she loves kids and babies and does very well around them. I still however do agree that you should always keep an I on children and pets. Children do not know when a dog may become upset with them tugging on them. I know plenty of people that were bitten as kids and the dogs pay the price even though some of these kids were irritating the dogs to begin with. With Buddy he is getting so old that he likes to eat anything so he will be far far away from any baby items.

    4. I can't imagine growing up without pets, our pets also encourage me to walk every day ( Nala would go crazy without one a day) and that will fit right in when the baby comes. I also own a pet store so the baby with see alot of pets through there life and hopefully one day we will be opening a kennel.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

We have a 6 year old tiger tabby who's about 10 lb, his name is Simon.  We also have a 2 year old, 20 lb Beagle named Tucker

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

Shortly after becoming pg we started transitioning Tucker to sleeping in his kennel every night and Simon in his own room downstairs.  That way, I won't have to worry about the animals being up with me in the middle of the night for feedings.  There's also a CD of baby sounds I plan on getting to get them used to all the new noises.  We'll also be setting up stuff as soon as we get it, and playing things that move or make noises.  Also, having DH bring home their blankets from the hospital so that they get used to their smells...So much to do!

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

That the babies will end up being allergic to one or both of the animals, and also that the animals will have a tough time getting used to the babies.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

Watching the animals react and interact with the kids and play together.

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name.

Boxers: Peyton-5.5 yo, 65 lbs, Kannon 5 yo, 68 lbs

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

i need to work harder, but so far i have introduced them to all the toys/blankets we have so far. I have also worked on leaving a baby blanket on the floor and keeping the dogs off. W have also been working hard on brushing up the training.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

My dogs were never socialized with kids and my female is fear aggressive with them when she is on a leash, but loose in the house, she is fine. Also they are boxers and like to paw things. Lots of work will be our success.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

fun! i also think it will be a great companionship for the whole family

    We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :) Yorkshire Terrier, 18months, 5.0lbs, Abbey Jae

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

Someone told me to get a fake baby doll and treat it like a real one for her to get used too..she's not been around many babies or kids

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? I dont' really have any concerns cause Abbey will do just fine..

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?  I'm hoping Abbey will protect the baby as much as possible.. I mean i know it's a small dog, but still

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :) 1 dog, American Eskimo, 4 yo, 15 lbs. Her name is Meadow

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We didn't do much the first time around but we already knew she was extremely gentle with children. She got a blanket brought home from the hospital is all.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Just the barking of the dog. I don't want to lose my sanity. Won't really affect the baby.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? My DD is 19 months and she and Meadow run and play together all of the time. Meadow actually evokes the most giggles from Elena. She tries to sit on her, cover her with blankets. They love each other. Meadow also checks on Elena before we go to bed. Very sweet.

    5. Anything else you wanna share!  It was really hard coming home from the hospital b/c Meadow got pretty protective of the house after baby came home the barking increase substantially but has calmed down a lot. Thick curtains on the windows so she can't see the neighbor dogs being walked all of the time helped.

  • We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. :)

Cody - 1 1/2 year old Beagle (about 25 pds)

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival?

Cody has been through training early on, but we will need to work on him before LO arrives.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together?

Cody loves taking blankets and anything that is not his.  Also he hasn't been around kids, so we're afraid he won't know how to behave with the little one.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?

Cody will be an amazing big brother, he is so lovable!!!

    5. Anything else you wanna share!

Cody is our first pet, so we are a bit nervous about if we have done a good job training him so far.

  • We've had a lot of pet&baby related posts lately. Here's a poll:

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? I have hired a private dog trainer for some one on one sessions, and she will be addressing all behavior issues, such as stepping on my belly.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Jealousy

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies? The baby will learn to treat pets respectfully. IT will also motivate me to get back in shape, because the dogs wait at the front door everyday at 12:30 because they know its walk time.

    5. Anything else you wanna share! They are in my siggy
  • 1. What kind of pet do you have? Also, include breed, age, weight, name. I have a dog. She's a Maltese. She's a couple months over 1 year old and 4.5 pounds. Her name is Chloe Belle.

    2. What have you done/will you do to prepare your pet for baby's arrival? We have tried to train her to get used to baby sounds and not as much attention from us. We have read different books and articles that we are using to help us and her.

    3. What are your concerns for pet and baby living together? Chloe is really small. I am scared for when the twins are older that they will be too rough with her. And I know Chloe will have jealousy issues as it has been me and her for a year. Also, we will be in a new house. It's going to be a lot for her.

    4. What do you see as the biggest perk of having furbabies living with human babies?  I cannot wait to see Chloe around the twins. She's so friendly and lively. I love my baby.
