Diaper advice-don't use huggies, pampers are better

I thought that the best disposable diapers would be the chlorine, dye, etc free so I got the Huggies pure and natural thinking that they were going to be really good, but he got a terrible rash from them within two days and the dr. said that pampers are best.  We tried the pampers swaddlers and his rash is gone already.

  • Interesting.  A friend of mine had the exact problem with her twins... except reversed, the only thing that didn't give them a rash were Huggies - plus, she insists they are better for boys, no leakage.

  • DD got a rash in the hospital from the Huggies that they stock in the hospital. DH had to go home and get some of our Pampers to use while we were thre.
  • With my DS pampers were the best at first since they have to many "up the back"poops, but after he started cereal they gave him a wicked rash and we switched to huggies.  Then at about one and a half we stitched to the costco brand and they were great.  Might try those a little earlier this time around.
  • For each child its going to be different, some might like pampers, some might like huggies, some might like the target brands. It is just dependant on the child.  This is why I dont recommend stocking up on one certain diaper.

  • I think every baby is different but we are going to try Pampers first.  My sister said they were the only ones that didn't leak with her son.

Totally not true. I tried Huggies for a day and had to change DS's clothes at almost every changing. Most of the 0-3 ladies bash Huggies saying they suck for smaller sizes (Swaddlers are the best) but are great for the larger sizes.

  • Eh, every baby is different. It is all about personal preference. While huggies may not work best for your LO it doesn't mean that they won't work great for someone else.

  • Agreed! I know 3 other people who have used Huggies and they gave thier baby a rash. We've always used Pampers and love them :) They use Pampers in the hospitals too.

Thanks so much!  The onsie shirt was actually what the hospital dressed him in- we took tons of them when we left!

  • Ummm....Huggies Pure & Natural are hardly "pure and natural".  They still contain 99.999% of the nasty chemicals found in disposables.  It is all marketing.
  • Pampers Swaddlers worked best for us too, but Cruisers were a different story.

It really depends on the baby, and like sawyer2 said, it's one of the reasons I don't recommend stocking up on diapers beforehand.

  • Every baby is different. My LO will not tolerate any diapers but Luvs. He used the swaddlers at the hospital and after and had the worst diaper rash-same with huggies. The best advice is to get a couple of small packs of a few different brands of diapers and see which ones work best with your LO.

  • I used regular Huggies w/DD and never had a problem

  • I DESPISE Huggies!!!

We used Swaddlers, and now Cruisers.  However, Pampers just changed the design of their Cruisers and they no longer have the mesh lining and aren't as soft.  They are still absorbent, but I've switched to Luvs for my DD because they are equivalent now, with the Pampers changes, and the Luvs are SO much cheaper.

I'll definitely still use Pampers for the new baby though.

  • Every baby is different, and different diapers work better at different times even on the same child.  I went through tons of switches with the boys.

FYI -- At my shower, BFF did a "test" to see which held more warm water -- Huggies or Pampers.  The Pampers started dripping before 4 cups (I think between 3.5 & 3.75) and the Huggies held over 4 cups (around 4.25) before it started dripping.

  • Honestly this is very dependent on what each child is like - what their skin will tolerate, how they are shaped vs. how the diapers are shapped, etc.

  • I actually called huggies because even though they are "natural" it doesn't state chlorine free on the package.  They said they are not chlorine free (for the pure and natural line)  Everyone has reco-ed pamers, so I went with those, though I have no hands on experience with them.  I have a few friends who have used the true chlorine free ones (seventh generation and there is one more I can't remember) and they told me not to because of all the blow outs.
  • Actually different babies work better with different diapers.  We loved Huggies but didnt like Pampers at all.  There are other factors that may be why the rash is gone.
  • Oh my gosh - your son is so beautiful!!!
