Prescription ???

in Postpartum Depression

I have been on 10 mg of Fluoxetine (prozac) for the past 6 months and just recently had my obgyn increase it to 20mg. I was starting to feel like I did before I took the meds in the first place. My ? is that why would my dr. prescribe a medicine the FDA does not recommend for pregnant/breastfeading women, knowing that I BF? Has this happened to any of you ladies?

    prozac is a category c (trimester specific risk) and lacation category unknown. it's very similar in that sense to lexapro. I know with that (i'll be starting it once i get my mail order stupid slow rx people) they found 2 cases where BF babies were "sleepier and less hungery" then normal. 1 of those cases they did not directly link to the lexapro the other wasn't investigated.

     Dr's Rx based on Risk Vs. Benefits but they still should have talked about this with you. Informed consent is important.
