double stroller

I needs rec's on a double stroller. I am going to be getting one for my sister, she will have a newborn and a 1.5 year old. I'm SO not looking to break the bank on a stroller, so something not ridiculously expensive.

Re: double stroller

  • I REALLY LOVE LOVE my peg perego, I know its pricey BUT so worth it, considering the graco duo gliders are so heavy by themselves and then you add the weight of two kids..several of my friends had graco duos and hated them...HTH....

  • we bought the babyjogger city mini double... but it IS a little pricey.  i haven't used it yet but it's gotten amazing reviews.  it's easy to drive, i can fit it through  my front door without any problems, seats recline perfectly flat, it comes with a car seat adaptor that fits ALL infant seats, etc... i actually can't wait to use it.  But, honestly, it was like $400 for the stroller and adaptor.  But I got 10% off of it because i created a registry and put my due date like the day i registered lol  I got sent thecompletion certificate and used it at buy buy baby (you can't use regular coupons at bru or bbb on baby joggers.)
  • A lot of my friends with 2 close together have the Graco Duoglider. I'm sure it's not the fanciest thing, but it does the trick and Graco is a pretty reliable brand.
  • I have a BOB Duallie for jogging, walking, etc and LOVE It!.

For everyday use I am looking at either one of the Maclaren's or the CIty Micro.

  • I'm going with the Maclaren Double Triumph in brown.  Overall it got the best reviews for side by side doubles in its price range. Also, it looks really nice.

Baby Jogger was recommended to me by quite a few people, but you have to like the look of jogger style strollers to appreciate it.  Also, it is in the $400-$600 range.

The Perego got pretty good reviews overall, but quite a few people said it is so lightweight, it tipped over with their kids in it.

The reviews on the Combi said it is good for twins, but doesn't push easily if the kids are of significantly different weights.

  • This is all good to know as I will have to start looking into this in a few months as well! ;) Thanks!

    eep, it tipped over???

yeah, the baby jogger was expensive, and we wouldn't have bought it with our own money lol  It was a gift from DH's aunt from England (the exchange rate was fantastic since our dollar is so weak lol)

  • We have the Joovy sit and stand.  It comes with the car seat adapter.  And it's not that pricey.

  • kvwerne's sil has a graco duoglider and i know she likes it.  i saw her boys in it once and they looked comfortable.  I personally didn't like it b/c it was really heavy when dh and i tried it out.  and i didn't like the front and back of it, but i guess that's a personal decision.

Yeah, after I looked at the floor models in the store, I went home to read the reviews on the BRU website and a couple of them mentioned that the Perego tipped with kids in it.  And that is actually the one I was leaning towards because it was by far the lightest double I picked up (I'm small....only 5'0", so stroller weight is a big issue with me.)

Trust me, if my in-laws offered to by the stroller I would be shopping in the $400+ range in a second because there is a lot of selection there, but so far they've offered squat. My mother has already bought the bedding, rug, curtains, all of the misc "girl" items I need because everything I have is blue, and a ton of clothes.  So it looks like I'm buying my own stroller and I had to stay in the lower range.

I'm hoping the Maclaren is the right choice.  The first time around I got a Chicco travel system that I hated with a passion after two months.  The stroller has been collecting dust for the last 2.5 years. I don't want to make that mistake again.

my actual inlaws (mil/fil) haven't gotten us anything... and they didn't get A anything, either.  Actually, she got some slightly stained clothes for the baby shower.  they bought their daughter the travel system stroller, though and they're getting themselves a huge flat screen tv (and all new furniture for their house.)  but my daughters?  nope.  lol  oh well.  we had a bunch of stuff to get since abby is still using half of it (crib, changing table, monitor, etc...) and we bought our own crib, my parents bought the dresser for us and fil says yesterday "let's just get them a box of diapers. that's all they need." and he was serious!  *shrug* oh well.  i'm grateful for the gifts we've received from everyone else, and i'm not going to b!tch about it (too much lol)

Dawn has a maclaren, i believe, and she started using it when kate was around 4 months i think.  ask her what she thinks!

Yeah, I asked Dawn about the Maclaren, she said she started to use it when Kate was 6 months old.

  • I know they have to be a little older for an umbrella stroller because I started putting Nicky in the one I currently have whe he was about 3.5 months old and he slumped over to the side really bad. By 5 months he did a lot better.

This time around I am going with a snap n go and an infant carrier for the new baby until she is ready for the big stroller.  In the meantime Nicky will just have to walk or I'll hopefully have either my mom or DH with me for big outtings and one of them can push him in a single.

  •  I have the Chicco double stroller (side by side) and I absolutely love it. We use it ALL the time.Great storage, comfy seats (reclines all the way back), super easy to fold, easy to manoeuvre, lightweight.

I paid $140, best money spent on baby purchase so far.

I also have the Graco Qautro Duo (more modern looking then the duoglider) it's heavy but a great stroller. I bought it at albeebaby.com and it was pretty cheap!

I plan on using it when baby #3 is here too:)

  • We have the Peg 60/40, and I love it.  I find it really easy to steer unless I'm going on grass---then it's tough.  I started using it when Graciela was less than a week old, and I put her right in it w/o the infant carseat (although it takes the infant seat).  It's so lightweight and it goes through all regular doorways.  It doesn't take up too much room (as double strollers go).  I love the side by side aspect--Cedric likes to hold Graciela's hand.

I was sold on it (not wanting it originally) by the lightness and the ease of use.  I managed to open and close it and lift it by myself when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant.
