I was wondering what are some of the things you have bought for LO off craigslist. I was just curious to see if I could find an extra carseat base on there. I have but I don't think I'm actually comfortable with it not being "new out of the box." What do you think? And what have you gotten?
Re: What have you bought from craigslist?
Crib that was never used (kid is 2 years and still co-sleeps) aside from storage of toys, changing table (which matched, same manufacture) and some toy bins.
I've had great luck on CL. I don't want to sound mean, but I go off of appearces of the seller and their homes (if in). I can tell if they are trying to BS me or not. The crib lady, the kid never left her side so it was obvious she wasn't lying about her DD still co-sleeping, and the gal with the changing table no longer needed it. Toy bins, a little dusty but they were down grading their home and didn't have room.
Bunk bed, desk, baby papasan chair (new), concert tickets.
I have sold a bunch of stuff. Usually works out.
I always read and heard don't buy a used carseat or crib, so personally I wouldn't... you never know what happened to the one you are buying if it isn't new. On the other hand, I'm sure most of the time it would be just fine... I guess it's just up to you.
I bought a BOB jogging stroller off craigslist. It is in new condition because it was at the grandparents house and never got used and I got it for a little less than half of what they sell for in stores!
We bought a back up crib that was still in the box for $60. This is a very expensive crib originally and I felt a bit guilty only paying 60.
We also bought DD a playhouse last year for outside that she loves. I have never had any problems with Craigslist other than the item already being sold.
We've bought a really nice glider that was in great shape for $80, and a gigantic bag of 3-6 month clothes for $20. They were both pretty easy transactions overall. I wouldn't get a used carseat unless I knew the person really well though, because you never know if it's been in an accident, exactly how old it is (esp. if the "don't use after X date" sticker is missing), etc.
Maybe keep an eye on store clearance sales instead--we got our Graco Snugride during a random sale when it was marked down to $60 (including base).
ditto on how I trust people... I changed my mind on a PNP after seeing the home it was in. My parent's bought us a swing, we got my brest friend still in package, I'm looking for a bumbo, I got a travel swing at a second hand store, I got a bottle warmer for cheap since so many people say they don't totally need it, oh I got an itzbeen timer

We bought our glider and ottoman off of craigs list for a great price and just bought a new bouncer ($15) and a bumbo with tray ($10). If your're patient and search regularly you can find a lot of good deals.
