  We've tried both.  I prefer a cloth one. It washes better....who knows what grubbiness is on the bottom from the change table itself.

  yes, I  made one out of water-resistant pleather... works well, a bit cushiony.

  I made one out of old cloth diapers and revieving blankets that I stitched together for the inside and covered it with fabric that matched my diaper bag. Then I "quilted" it, so that when its washed, the inside material stays put. I like it even more than the water resistant ones!
