Babies: 9 - 12 Months

SOOO close to crawling. How to help him along?

I know he will get it at some point, but how can we "motivate" him to crawl? He gets up on hands and knees, but then gets pissed and kicks his legs.  It is funny, yet sad.  I am anxious for him to get it, but thn reality tells me I should be happy he isn't crawling yet!

  • I wouldn't! He'll figure it out on his own eventually, and then you'll wonder why you were so eager for him to be mobile! :)

  • Just give him lots of floor time.  And I love that DD is crawling! I don't regret being excited about her crawling.  She is sooo much happier!

  • Don't encourage it! You'll be sorry!

  • Our LO started crawling the night we put up our Christmas tree... she was excited by the lights and went after them!

Appreciate what sounds like your last few days without a mobile baby!

  • I'm no help at all, we've got the exact same problem in our house.  I just KNOW that he'll be a happier baby when he can really get around without relyingon us so much.

  • The best thing to help them get going is to cheer him on while encouraging him to come to you.  Try and get him to smile when he gets pissed.  A few more weeks and he'll have it.

  • We are almost crawling too :)
  • We are in the same boat, except he isn't up on fours yet! He loves when I carry grocery bags or clothing bags and hears the crinkle. So, for Christmas we got him a toy from Target that is a crinkly lion toy and we crinkle that....he goes NUTS and will really scoot and is now trying to get up on his fours a little bit. He can get it if he really wants something and that something is his fav. toy!!! I can't wait, he is so ready to be mobile and moving on his own. :) Good luck
  • Leave the toys just out of reach and cheer him on for some motivation.  That's about all you can do.

DS started crawling about a month after he started rocking on all 4's.

(And yes, be happy...I'm constantly taking things away from him or turning him in new directions to keep him out of things.  I'm tired at the end of the day. lol)
