Did Your DH Give Up Alcohol During IVF?

I just read in the book Making Babies that studies show men who drink less alcohol prior to and during IVF cycles have better sucess rates. The theory is that sperm is better quality. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me that cutting this out during IVF would do much good since sperm is produced 3 months ahead of time but just curious what your DHs did...

  • nope. We're not big drinkers, but he'll have a beer a few times a week after work and he goes out with his buddies after lacrosse every week.
  • Loading the player...
  • mine did not.  And there were a couple of nights that he went out with the boys and had his fair share.

  • Nope, but he probably would if we ever get to try again, just for the hell of it.
  • nope, but with the exception of vacations, we aren't huge drinkers.

  • Nope.  He cut back though.  He used to have 10-12 drinks per week and he cut back to like 4.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • He cut back, but is still having a few every now and then.  I would really like him to quite outright when I stimm, but he feels otherwise...guess i can't blame him, I go INSANE on these drugs!

  • no, but he isn't the boozer in the family--that would be moi!

  • Yes and he makes it known that he does not like it one bit! But the IVF nurse said no alcohol for either of us during our whole cycle except maybe a beer or glass of wine for a special occasion.  He would rather just not drink at all than have just 1 beer. So both of us have given up alcohol for now.
  • Yes.  My uber conservative RE asked us both to cut alcohol and we don't have any MFI.  I feel bad.  I am in bed so early, I wish I could send him out with his friends drinking!
  • Nope. I suggested it based upon everything I had read.  But he is not a believer since his degenerate friends generally knocked up wives & girlfriends while they were inebriated. Of course this is our first IVF cycle, so who knows how it will end.
  • Nope.   Our RE told us sperm takes 10-11 weeks to generate from start to "finish" so there was no point in changing habits.

  • we are not doing IVF right now, but we both limit our alcohol consumption to 1-2 a week. we've been doing this for over 3 cycles now and it does make a difference.
