Two Under 2

Repeat c-section mamas of 2U2

How was your recovery experience the second time around? With DS, I was very sore for the first week and on meds for two weeks after delivery. I remember having to have someone else do all of my heavy lifting, ie, carry DS in and out of the car in his infant seat. Not sure how I'm going to deal with the recovery while having to care for a toddler. How was your experience?

Re: Repeat c-section mamas of 2U2

  • I am NOT the norm when it comes to c-sections. I had 3 in 3 years.

My recoveries were all fantastic. No pain meds in the hospital or at home after any of my c-sections. I'm up, walking and showered by myself the next day after my c-section. I have a high tolerance for pain.

I was about 95% when I went home. I lifted my other child(ren) after about a week. My OB told me to listen to my body and don't stress it out.

    GL to you!

  • I was in a little more pain the second time but it could be cause of the lack of time in between to heal.  I also had Placenta Previa so it could have contributed to it.  Just plan on having equal pain to the first just in case :)

I didn't life the infant seat for 2 weeks.

  • My first was a bit challenging mainly because I didn't get up and walk around like they told me to at the hospital.

    My second was different.

    1.  I started drinking prune juice the second I could and pounding colace so that first BM wasn't as difficult.

    2.  I walked as soon as possible.

    3.  I stayed on top of my pain meds.

Not picking up the toddler just wasn't an option for me.  I minimized it where I could and I made sure to lift with my knees instead of my back.

My second section recovery WITH picking up the toddler seemed much easier than the first.

Like so many other things with 2u2 you just do what you have to do.  You don't have as much time to sit around thinking about the surgery/recovery because you're busy settling into a routine with 2 kids.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • Totally easy.  Hurt a lot for 2 days in the hospital, then I was on Motrin only for another week.  With the second, I felt like I didn't really have a choice - I was active when I got home, no sitting around!  I couldn't walk as far as I wanted for a couple of weeks - but by that, I mean a few miles.  And I am not in super great shape or anything like that.
  • My first was so super easy. My 2nd was hell. I could not walk for 6 weeks. I had a UTI, infection at the site and internal bruising from the internal sutures. I sat on the floor often and did what I could.
  • One nice thing about a scheduled c-section is that you can plan for it.  My mom was able to take close to a week of vacation, and I had friends and neighbors come over to help me take care of DS or take him to daycare that second week.
