Mine broke in the afternoon... around 11:45am. I stood up from putting my shoes on and suddenly it was like I couldn't stop peeing myself. I had fluid gushing out for about an hour...
If your water breaks on it's own... you will know!
I woke up in the morning at 7 to pee and when I stood up from the toilet, I felt a trickle. I changed my pad, went back to bed for a few minutes and then when I stood up, felt another trickle. Filled the pad quickly and it was pink tinged. It was not ever a huge gush like on tv. My contractions started about that same time and they hurt really bad! GL.
Trust me. You'll know. Unless your amniotic fluid is dangerously low, it will feel like you peed your pants. Definitely a different feeling from the discharge you have during pregnancy.
If you're already in labor, having contractions, etc, you should feel the pressure in your abdomen lessen tremendously with a gush of fluid. It might feel like a momentary relief from the contractions. But they'll be back in about five minutes.
I was 36wks 6 days i was laying in bed waiting for DH to get home from work at midnight. no sooner did he walk in the door and come into the room to kiss me good night when i felt this wierd feeling in my vagina like i was about to pass a giant squishy blood clot or something like it was just hanging in there waiting to explode. i ran (more like waddeled) down the hall and just as i put my leg over the side of the tub WOOSSSHH it all came rushing down my legs!!! i had to stand in the tub for about 10 min while i let it come out. In that time DH took a shower in the master bathroom and called the OB... of to L&D we went
It didn't break as in "gush", but there was water coming out of me...not so much that a pad was able to hold it for me. It happened at 9:30am, packed, showered, dressed...went to brunch and arrived at the hospital at 12:30pm. My contractions didn't start until 3:30pm...
I heard a pop, started having painful contractions and had a pretty big gush of liquid the next time I stood up...with "stuff" in it. She had just been moving around like crrrraaaazzzy right before I heard the pop... it was 10:40pm.
I was 39 weeks exactly - bouncing on my birth ball when it felt like someone poured a cup of warm water on my pants. Waddled to the bathroom and pulled down my leggings and it started pouring out into the toilet and floor. It was clear and had no smell.
I had contractions all day from the time I woke up to go to work at 5am till delivery the next morning. I went to the hospital at 8pm, my water broke at 10pm, had my son at 1:40am. I was having a contraction and thought I had to pee. I told my DH to get someone because I was hooked up to monitors and really couldn't hold it and when he left the room a little bit came out. I didn't realize it was my water until I got up and it was a lil brown from the meconium (sp?) and then I went to the toilet and the flood gates opened, lots of water.

I honestly think it broke b/c DH and I had sexy time... I came home from work around 3:30, once we were done around 4, I took a nap, and when I woke up at 6, realized things were awfully juicy down there- DH later told me he thought things were juicier than normal while we were getting it on, so I think it was really closer to 4 when it broke. I put on a pad, thinking maybe it was just more discharge than usual... but when I had to change the pad about 10 min later, and it was kind of pink tinged, I realized that yeah, my water had broken.
I don't think it's always that obvious - sometimes the baby's head acts like a cork, and so it could be just a small trickle. with bladder control a challenge in the 3rd tri, you may not be entirely sure at first!
This is what happened to me. Woke up at 6 to go to the bathroom. peeing felt a little different, but at first, i didn't think much of it. then, as i was walking around, i felt a little bit more leaking. sure wasn't sure if maybe it was just my bladder. finally, i realized that if it was urine, it probably would have been bright yellow, since it was first thing in the morning. it definitely was not a gush, didn't hear a pop, none of that. just a little trickle!
Mine broke about 11 pm. I had just gotten out of the tub and was on the phone with DH. I went to pee and when I wiped the tp was soaking wet. I told DH that I thought my water had broken and that he should probably start heading home (he works 24 hour shifts as a firefighter). I laid down for a few minutes and when I stood back up there was a definite gush of water and it was pink tinged. My contractions never started on their own. I think the biggest surprise for me was the fact that I continued leaking for a long time and the pink tinge to the fluid.

Mine broke at 4:45am and it woke me out of a dead sleep. It felt like a big movement and then a punch to the cervix with a definite popping feeling. I had mild cramping right afterward but it didn't gush until I got up to pee a minute later. It didn't stop gushing for a couple hours after we got to the hospital. There was no denying it had broken and it smells different than pee.
It happened when I went to the bathroom. Around midnight...I knew because I could feel that the liquid wasn't coming from my bladder and it just kept coming regardless of me doing a kegel. Also after awhile it had a slight blood tinge to it.

This. Had sexy time with DH around 9pm, felt a little trickle around 11 pm and contractions started. I wasn't really sure it broke, but with the contractions coming steadily 2-3 minutes apart by 2 am, we went to the hospital and they confirmed it.

It was about 4am, and I had just laid down after using the bathroom. I heard a pop and felt a gush of fluid. I then immediately started having extremely painful contractions that were about two and a half minutes apart. DD was born less than five hours later.
I had laid down for bed before my last day of teaching. I just couldn't find any way to get remotely comfy and then I heard a pop! I rolled out of bed, ran to the bathroom, and the trickle began...soon to turn into a gush. You will know if your water breaks!

37 and dx with DOR...just fabulous
Mine broke about 2pm, I was taking a nap. I was 35 weeks pregnant and was not close to expecting it to happen and I knew immediately. I felt a pop and then gush. Ran to the bathroom hoping it was not my water breaking, but when the stream kept coming and there was a tinge of pink to it, I knew to call my doctor.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

My water broke at 38w1d a little after 6 pm. LO hadn't been moving much all day, so we went to the hospital for a NST. We got out of the car and were walking across the parking lot when I felt a little gush. I thought it was just a random gush of discharge, but was kind of wondering. We were stepping out of the elevator into the L&D lobby when there was a HUGE gush of warmth. I knew for sure then that it was my water By the time we made it over to the front desk, my inner thighs were soaked down to my knees.
My water broke around 11:35 am on Saturday October 24. I had just taken off my clothes to get in the shower when I felt a little bit of fluid trickle down my legs. I looked on the floor and the water had a little bit of blood in it. After the initial trickle, it kept coming out slowly. I had just used the bathroom so I knew I had not peed on myself. I took a shower before we went to the hospital, so since I had a slow leak, the test that they do to see if your water broke (I can't remember what it's called) kept coming up negative, as I'd washed away the amniotic fluid. If you think your water has broken, and it's a slow trickle, put on a pad and don't throw it away/change it before you get to the hospital. If you're like me and want to take a shower or whatever, put on a pad and soak up some of the fluid first, and keep the pad and take it with you. I know that sounds completely gross, but that's what they told me to do. That way, they can test it and know sooner. I knew that my water had broken, and I was having bloody show at that point, but it took a couple of hours before the test came back positive.
230A. I was dead asleep, but the sensation of something flooding out of me must have woken me up as the bed didn't get wet at all (I stood up as soon as I figured out what was going on).
I knew it was my water breaking because I couldn't stop it! And it just kept coming and coming and coming...
2:00 a.m. exactly. It woke me from a dead sleep with a pop and then two huge gushes. I quickly jumped up, ran to our bathroom, and put a towel between my legs. After that it continued to gush everytime I had a contraction. Trust me, you will know when your water breaks.
2:06 am - I woke up with a bad contraction and was bending over the side of the bed when it happened. I felt a little pop and then felt a lot of something wet. My midwife kept telling me that I'd KNOW when I was really and truly in labor, and she was right. There was no mistaking the contraction that woke up me or the water breaking.
Mine broke around 10am. I just had an internal exam at my 39w appointment. I was getting dressed in the room and when I stood up, I felt three gushes of fluid. It felt like someone was pouring really warm water into my underwear, soaking them completely.
Prior to my water breaking, I had ZERO signs of labor. I was even only 1cm dilated. I went from 1cm to 5cm in under three hours and delivered my son 8 hours after my water broke.
