XP Out and about potty success and ?????

Also posted on 12-24

We were out to lunch today and I took DS into the bathroom to change. He refused to let me put a clean diaper on and kept saying he had to pee. So I took him in the stall covered the seat like a mad woman (layer after layer) and just held him over and he went (yay!).

Question is if you're potty training or yours already is trained, what do you do when you go out? If I hadn't held DS in the hover position he would have fallen straight thru.

  • DS just holds himself on the potty..usually sitting toward the front.  I also keep a Bjorn little potty in the car in case we are somewhere where there are no potties.  I have used it about 4 or 5 times since August.

  • Go Nicholas!  That's awesome.
  • We have this travel potty and it works great. It's small enough to fit in the diaper bag and I have set in up in public bathrooms, a park and even the back of my SUV. DS hates public toilets- I think the auto-flush freaks him out- and I don't blame him, it freaks me out too!

I was just reading in Parents a tip about this.  Someone carries post it notes in her purse or diaper bag and puts one on the auto flush light until her child is done.  Then removes it after....it keeps the toilet from flushing.

  • We have the Pottette Plus mentioned above.  I think it will really come in handy this summer when we're at parks where bathrooms are few and far between.  I have also used it as a potty ring over public toilets.  It can be a little bulky to carry around so, more often than not, I just hold DD over the side of the toilet.  I used to get super grossed out at public toilets but I've just learned to deal with it and wash hands really well when we're done.

  • We have only ventured out twice.  I always have clorox wipes in a baggie in my purse or in the diaper bag. I wipe down the toilet seat and the part in the middle and THEN layer it with toilet paper!

I'm a germ freak.  But then I put her on and I just hold her up and have her lean forward a bit so she doesn't fall in!

  • We have a fold up potty seat that we sometimes take with us.  Otherwise, I use a disinfecting wipe that I keep in my purse and wipe the toilet down and cover it.  She can balance just fine on the end of the potty.  She sits towards the front instead of the back.
  • DD wears pullups when we are out traveling (it is a 2 hour car ride to the nearest major city for us) and then when on the toilet she leans foward and holds onto my arms. We also wipe down the seat.
