3rd Trimester

Working up until delivery

Is anyone else working right up until they have their baby? I am, and I keep thinking that my water is going to break at work. That would be embarassing but at the time I might not care. I'm just wondering if anyone else is in this situation because I know most people will be on leave when they are do.

Re: Working up until delivery

  • Thats my plan.

  • Thats my plan...I want to save all my time...it would be great if I went into labor at work because I am less than 5 mins from the hospital where if I am home it is 30-40 mins :)
  • I'm working all the way up til I go into labor.  I actually was joking with my co-teacher last week that she might have to make that frantic call to my hubby.

  • I am, and for some reason my water breaking while I'm at work is not a fear of mine.  I guess i figure it's statistically unlikely ...

  • I am working right up until I go into labor.  I teach 4th grade and that is my biggest fear, that my water will break in front of my kids!  Guess it will just be a quick science lesson for them Stick out tongue  The only thing comforting me is that at our birthing class they said that only 15% of women's water actually breaks, and of everyone I know who's has...it's happened in the middle of the night.  Now that I am getting more and more BH though and just feeling achy all over, I am starting to worry about that interfering with work.Huh?

    Good Luck!!

  • That is my plan too and the hospital is literally 2 minutes away from my work...Also, this might a little odd, but I am so comfortable with the people in my direct office (usually me, a co-worker and my boss, or just my boss and I) that I dont think I will be embarassed.  I know my boss might feel embarassed and may be speechless,(that will make me giggle too) but I dont think it will bother me...I'll just call my husband and gather my things and say bye :)

  • That's my plan, but I have to make sure I'm able to do that - we have a benefits group I'm supposed to call 1 month out so I'm hoping they don't need a firm end date.
  • I am working right up until I go into labor.  I am running into timing issues and want as much time home with LO as I can.  I have to go back to class for my final class right after he's born and if I go out of work early, I will end up having to go back to work before I graduate!

  • I will be too - I am hoping it doesn't happen at work, but only time will tell. I work at a desk all day so I won't be doing much strenuous activity.

    This.

  • My plan is to work up until the end, just hope the baby cooperates.
From miscarriages, a diagnosis of a bicornuate uterus, and fibroid removal surgery...It's been quite the journey but it was all well worth it. Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • I will also be working up until delivery, and I also worry about my water breaking at work!  Will I have to buy them a new desk chair?  What about carpet cleaning!?!?  I'm sure this is irrational, but the thoughts have definitely crossed my mind :)
  • I was recently given the option to stop working 5 days before my EDD, but I can still come in if I want. I think it will all depend on how I feel... I'd prefer to work/make money as long as I can, considering I do not have maternity pay. And the length of my maternity leave is dependent on how long our "baby savings" lasts.

  • I worked up to my due date with DD and spent 10 days at home waiting for her to arrive, using up my maternity leave (we have to use sick days.)  Not really a problem for that pregnancy, but now that I have used up all but 34 days with the 2 kids, it is an issue.  Those 10 days would really come in handy now, esp if I have a c section.

With DS I worked until delivery, with a towel nearby:)

  • i am working up until my labor. i dont want to waste any vacation/sick time and i dont want to lose any hours.
  • I'm going to work as long as I can too. I'm hoping I can just call my boss one morning and say see ya in 3 months, lol. I am worried about my water breaking at work cuz my water broke with dd, but I work with mostly women and I'm sure it wouldnt be that big of a deal.
  • That's my plan too...but my temp that I have been training has virtually took over everything I needed her to learn, and I'm sitting their twiddling my thumbs. I wish I could take off now.  :)
  • I was going to...but then I changed my mind.  Friday was my last day!
  • I originally planned on it because I thought if I took time before, it counted in my Mat. leave.  However, if I have a note from my doctor, the days will only count as regular sick days, not my Mat. leave.  I'm a teacher, so I can only take 30 sick days as Mat. leave after baby is born.  I have WAAAY more than that, so I think I am going to stop the day before my EDD.  It's the first day of our week that week, so my sub can just take over then.  That way it will be a firm date for my students, the sub, and the school.  Then, once I have LO, I notify school and that starts my official Mat. leave.  Even if baby ends up being close to 42 weeks, none of that time will count in Mat. leave, so I only use about 10 extra sick days that I have plenty of!  I'm very excited about this since I only found out how it would work on Tues!

  • i am. i work in the medical field though and with mostly women so i'm just not really worried about it. but i'm certainly hoping it won't happen in front of a bunch of people!

  • I had planned on doing that. I decided to start mine yesterday. I'm only a week away from my EDD, so I'm not too worried about it. I only get 6 weeks, but I think I need this week to relax and get ready for baby!
  • I was planning to, as I only work part-time and don't get paid matenrity leave. I'm not the least bit worried about my water breaking at work. I'm so excited to meet my monkey I would be so happy his arrival would be imminent I wouldn't care. It isn't like you can control it!
  • I am..My c-section is Feb 1..so I will be working til Jan 29 the Friday before..

I am saving all my sick days to use after the baby..no point in sitting home now..especially if I feel fine..Plus I am off this Monday and if I need a break the last week I will take a day off..

Fine with me..I am a teacher so it is not that serious..8:30 to 3.. hour lunch..30 minute break..

  • That was my original plan.  But, it seems as if my blood pressure had different plans for me Surprise
  • My plan was to work up until delivery and I had the same thoughts that I would have my water break at work. I was excited for that though, as I work with 22 guys who would all freak out. Haha. But I was put on bed rest just before 36 weeks so now I'm working from home. So I guess I'm still working, I just don't go in to work every day.
  • I plan to.  And another girl that works there has already had her water break while at work, twice :o).  So I know that my director is used to it!  Ha ha...
  • It was my plan, but work asked me to stop working March first so that they can get a schedule set in stone and being at home will put me much closer to the hospital and DH's work.  He can be home in 5 minutes vs. 45 if I was at work.

  • I wanted to. Didn't make it thanks to bed rest =(
  • My plan is to work right up until the friday before my due date( My due date is on a sunday.) Unless the dr or baby have other plans. I'm not worried about my water breaking while i'm at work. I teach 4th grade. I few weeks ago I almost passed out in front of my class. They asked me if my water broke. If it really does, o well I'll deal with it when or if it happeneds.

  • That's my plan. And I"m also worried about my water breaking at work! :)
  • I worked until 37 weeks and had DD at 38 weeks. I did fine working until 36 weeks or so and then kind of hit a wall: I was uncomfortable, distracted, etc.

  • Yep, I'm going to try to.  So far so good.
  • I worked until yesterday (39 weeks)! My supervisors were very scared my water would break. LOL the only reason I didn't work longer is because I wasn't nesting and thought I wouldn't have things done so I gave myself a week!
  • That's the plan...but who knows how I will feel when my back starts killing me!
