Another Stroller Question: For a dog walker?

DH and I walk our dogs at least once a day, and we want to do that with the baby, too. We have two big dogs. What stroller would you recommend for daily walks, up to 2 miles long? I am so overwhelmed by all of the different types--haven't even thought about brands yet! Please give me as much info as you can.

TIA!!

I just reg for this yeaterday.  I loved it in the store and reviews for the most part are pretty good.  I didn't get a regular stroller.  This one reclines and you can also out the infant car seat in it for places like the mall etc...

  • I found that my jogging stroller gave me the most stability while walking my dogs. I could only walk one at a time though, and it was always a hassle. Walks are much more manageable when DH comes along!

  • We chose the BOB jogging stroller.  I'm a runner & the dog walker/runner so I'll use it for that.  We will also use it for our regular stroller.  Very study & easy to maneuver.  It has an infant carseat adapter to that can be used for walks.

  • I would get a BOB or something similar.

  • I am in the same boat, although I will probably be the only person walking the dogs most of the time while on maternity leave and DH is working.

My plan is to use our travel system while the baby is still small because jogging strollers aren't recommended until baby's have good head control, I think I read somewhere around 6 months old. We got the Chicco Cortina stroller btw. I hope this works for us because I love walking the dogs but obviously can't do it without bringing baby with us.

Edited to add: Then I plan to get a jogging stroller when the baby's old enough.

What's a BOB? We're not runners. Would this be a good choice for walkers-only? Thanks for the advice!

While they are great jogging strollers, I've tried one out & it is also just a great stroller all around.  Pricey, but it's the only one we are getting.  My mom got it for us for Christmas.  It's available online at bed, bath & beyond & she was able to use the 20% off coupon by going into the store to place the order.  We aren't getting a travel system.  We'll use this & an Ergo until LO is only enough for the Kelty backpack, then we'll add that into the mix depending on what we are doing.

Good point. I believe some jogging strollers are made to adapt to a car seat as well. We didn't get our jogging stroller until DS was well out of his infant car seat, but I believe our models of jogging stroller and car seat are compatible with each other.

  • We have a BOB Revolution and I use it when we walk the dog.  Actually it is all we use.  Since you have big dogs....I would recommend to always be ready to let go of them and use the wrist strap on the stroller.  Strollers can roll away fast.

My dog (lab) does better walking with the stroller than without....

My understanding is that applies to running w/ the baby.  You can walk using the BOB & the infant carseat adapter starting whenever you are ready.

  • We used our BOB sport utility for running, but I also used it daily for long walks with the dog and taking DS to the community pool and things like that.  It is definitely a sturdy, well made stroller.  It's a little big to go in and out of the car for things like trips to the mall so I would still recommend an everyday stroller.  We had the Chicco Trevi and that worked well.  I've heard good things about the BOB revolution and the pivoting front wheel is appealing.  If we were to do it again I would probably get that one because it would make navigating walks easier.

You are totally right. When I hear "jogging stroller," I think of just jogging/running with it, not walking only. So yeah, it does make sense to get a jogging stroller even for walks. Thanks :)

    Correct

  • i would recommend getting it asap and practicing withthe dogs, before baby arrives. You will have a learning curve to wrangle the dogs and the stroller safely so better to get them used to it now.

it feels kind of silly but made me feel better and work out the kinks beforehand

  • Great advice, everyone!! Thank you so much!! Now to hunt for a BOB. :) Does it stand for "baby on board"?
