And if you are a SAHM, what did you do before you had kids?
I'm a school speech/language pathologist. I was a SAHM for a while, but I really love working and when the opportunity came to return to my old job, I took it.
My first year out of grad school I worked in Long Term Care and hated it.
Re: What is your job/career?
Okay - what have I missed. Is this the same job you got last year when you bought your house? I thought you were so excited about it and loved it.
occupational therapist working in pediatrics as an EI evaluator.
Hello Fellow Therapist.
Why did I think you worked at Gymboree?
Normally, I would say substitute teacher, but I think I've worked 5 times this entire school year. So, I'm a SAHM/part-time college student. In the fall, I'll be a full-time college student.
Before DD, I worked for a chiropractor.
I hate it. Like, stab my eyes out with a hot poker, hate it. It's too long to even go into. In a nutshell, the customers are snatches, management is incompetent and the stats we have to keep are crazy and it's way more stress than I get paid for. But, it pays the bills.
For anyone who doesn't see my rants I work in customer service for a wireless company.
What are you studying?
LOL...I worked there one day a month putting out the new lines of clothing for the discount. I got free Gymbo classes and 40% off of clothes. I quit back in August after doing it for a year. Since I had dd I work 2 days a week doing EI evals and I have my masters in OT.
You may like the rehab field. You can do PTA or COTA and do the treatments without the evaluations and less paperwork. SLP's have to have the master's, so we can't have assistants, but you may like that too.
I'm an attorney and love my job.
what do you mainly do? Prosecute? Defend? Divorce? Corporate?
I work with 2 ladies who have a 4 year degree in speech/language pathology and chose not to continue and are working as "speech teachers" in EI. Doesn't make much sense to me but they are doing it. OT's also have to have a masters but a COTA-certifiied occupational therapy assistant you can become in 2 years of college. If you have a bachelors already there are numerous colleges that you can go to for OT weekend programs and get your masters in OT in 3 years (every weekend Friday, Sat and Sun year around with no breaks).
Did you get your degree in History? I was just wondering because that's what my sister is working on now.
I'm a part-time SAHM and a med student the rest of the time.
My BA is in Athletic Training (like medical - not personal training) and Sports Admin. I worked in therapy for an Ortho surgeon prior to DS1, then in clinic for an Ortho Surgeon (casting/HEPs/etc) before DD, then went crazy and went into a 9-5 job in Medicare Compliance for a home medical equipment company. I'll go back to that whenever I decide.....and hope to go back to school soon for business/graphic design. I'm not done growing up yet.
I am an Infant Development Specialist in a NICU.
I used to work in Early Intervention running a center-based program with occasional home visits for children birth to three years old before I focused my career on the medical/hospital side of early intervention.

Some states will allow Bachelor only SLP's to work in the school setting only, under the direct supervision of an ASHA certified SLP. We have an SLP-A at the other elementary school in our district. She just does tx - no evals and no IEPs or meetings. It's not all states, and it's schools only - no medical settings. Some don't continue on to grad school b/c they don't have the grades to get them in. Among other reasons, too. In KY, they are paid the same as a Rank 3 teacher (bachelor level)
I currently work PT in market research. My friend owns her own company after working several years for Clinton's pollster - she was the one in the office crunching numbers until the wee hours of the morning to send to Bill during the impreachment. She also worked the Microsoft anti-trust account. Torture, but great experience in the field.
I do mostly administrative stuff for her, but I get paid pretty well for PT work. Plus, I get to watch TV shows like True Blood and Vampire Diaries with my boss during lunch hour. Eventually, I will be working all my hours from home halfway across the country, so this is an excellent PT gig.
Before I started this, I worked for 10 years doing government and non-profit work. I wanted to get into education policy research, and I was ALMOST there...ugh, don't even get me started. There is a reason I left the FT workforce.
