2nd Trimester

I hate when people say that! (Vent/Cry)

I've finally been feeling especially bump-ish lately (other than fat), and I told someone new about my LO today, and her first comment was "Wow you don't even look it!" So what, I just look really fat!? Then my mind started going- Have I always looked this fat to her? To everyone!? Gah!!! I dislike when people don't notice my bump!!

  • aww, dont feel bad!! dont over think it.. sometimes you notice before others do!! im sure she totally meant that she didnt realize.. not that she thought you were "fat" .. but im sure its totally innocent!! look on the bright side.. atleast your not huge yet, where its totally impossible to not notice!!!

  • i would probably be considered a skinny girl & I feel like a whale! My MIL went on & on on how big I am this early & that she didnt show til she was like & months pregnant. people are so weird. double-edged sword..

youre right,, what is it like a compliment to say "you dont look pregnant?" ...like, oh dont worry you're doing it, you're pulling it off. ?

what?! Girl, you rock pregnancy like you rock your everyday & forget how she sees you, she was probably trying to be nice & Im sure you look perfectly pregnant!

  • She was trying to be nice. Try to take comments as they are intended!
  • I got that too- I was pretty proud of my pre-pregnancy tummy (pretty flat and muscular). I'm a petite person, so I figured as soon as I started showing, people would notice.  Well at 17 weeks, someone said to me "You don't look pregnant, you just look like you at a lot!"  I wanted to cry! First of all, I was so excited to be FINALLY showing, and second, she basically called me fat. I had the same thought you did- "Is this how I looked to everyone before I got PG?"

Now I'm 20 weeks and showing more (still not as big as some women get) but I wear clothes that exaggerate my belly (empire waists!) and I definitely look pregnant!

Some people try to be nice and end up being offensive. Some of it is hormones making us more sensitive, and some of it is people just don't think!  Tell me I look pregnant- that will make me happy! Don't tell me I look like I've eaten too much....

The problem is, people are screwed either way. Women come on here crying because someone told them they look pregnant (which to them -= fat). People on these boards are sensitive to things people say no matter what. Thats why I always say to think about the persons intentions and not take it personally.

  • at 21 weeks with a 1st baby, you probably DON'T look pregnant. You might see it yourself b/c you see your belly, but in clothes, probably not. Just take it as a compliment that you look great and move on.

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut
  • I'm there with you.  I'm a pretty skinny girl but I'm also very tall, so baby has a LOT of room to grow and because of that I barely have a noticable bump.  It seems like everyday I run into someone who knows I'm pg and they always comment on how I don't pg at all.  At first it really got me upset, but then I figured I'm really in a good spot.  I have a health baby, I can still sleep on stomach comfortably, and it means that I'm that much closer to delivery without a huge stomach!  That said, when I going to be around a bunch of people (like I have a meeting with a lot of co-workers in a couple of weeks who all know I'm pg) I dress in outfits that show off the little bump that I have.  Everyone's body is different, so don't stress.
  • My grandma told me I looked like Ruby and asked if I was going to go on a diet because she was not that big when she was preggers!  I smiled politely and said 'no' and my cousin pounced on her for the Ruby thing which was way uncalled for, Ruby weighs 700 lbs for crying out loud!
  • If your coworker is anything like me, she probably has never ever paid any attention to whether or not you look fat.  She probably was just surprised that #1, you are so far along without her knowing.... and #2 that you look so great.

Hey, you could be like me....  twice in my life I've had strangers ask me if I was pregnant...  and neither time were when I was actually pregnant. Indifferent   Ahh the curse of having PCOS (my weight goes to the belly first... blah)
