Julie and Julia

what did you ladies think of this movie? Would you recommend renting it?  I want to see it, but I am tired of renting movies that were better left unseen.. Please let me know what you think :)

Re: Julie and Julia

  • I liked it & I wouldn't say I loved it. You have to like Julia Child I guess. It's a *cute* movie. Now the movie I refuse to watch is Marley & Me. I don't want to use a whole kleenox box as I heard it's sad.

  • I liked it.  I didn't think it was amazing, but it was worth my time.  Meryl Streep was awesome as Julia Child.  The book was much better of course, but the movie is enjoyable.

  • I LOVED this movie!!!  Just an FYI, there are a few references to IF that did make me cry - but they are very short and the rest of the movie is great!!!  Highly recommended!!!
  • Well, I'm not sure what kind of movies you like but I personally thought this was a GREAT movie!  Very cute and mostly happy (they touch silently on IF, I guess Julia Childs was unable to have children).  I loved both the actresses and thought they did great.  I think it is well worth the rent.  I would describe it as refreshing & cute :)

My MIL bought us this movie, but I have not watched it for this exact reason!

  • I really liked this movie. It was really cute. Be aware, though, that there is one part that relates to IF and it made me cry.
  • I thought it was really cute. I went and saw it with a girlfriend since DH had no interest. I'd totally watch it again.
  • totally agree with the PP's. cute movie...and ditto to the IF references.
  • Thanks for the info!  I am going to rent it tomorrow and I will let you know what I think!
  • I had no idea about the iF reference in the movie until I watched it and I'm so glad I didn't watch it with my MIL like she wanted me too.  She would have NEVER even got the reference there and I would have started bawling.  I'm super glad I watched it with my husband.

That being said, Have You Heard About The Morgans is that way too.  The reason they are fighting is because he cheated on her because of the stress of infertility and considering adoption.  THAT caught me off guard too.
