Two Under 2

Always late

Do you find that, now that you have two or more kids that you are late all the time?  I am ALWAYS late...doesn't matter if I start getting us ready 3 hours before we have to leave.  Inevitably we're ready to walk out the door and someone poops, needs to eat or some other issue comes up.  Anyone actually able to get anywhere on time?  Please share your secrets!

Re: Always late

  • Nope. I'm pretty much on time, give or take 5 minutes. I don't consider 5 minutes late...........

I just get ready early, and make sure that I have snacks, etc. and am prepared for anything.

  • Late-ness is one of my biggest pet peeves, so no, I'm never late! I just give myself plenty of time, and try to get as much stuff ready ahead of time as I can.
  • we're normally within 5 minutes but sometimes it is impossible.. the other day DS did a gigantic poo but managed to take off his diaper inside his pants. so i had to rinse out the pants, rinse out the diaper (we do cloth), give him a bath... we were meant to leave in like 5 minutes time from when that happened. awesome. and i only have one right now. so it can happen no matter what i think. that is the nature of babies/toddlers!
  • Yes. Always late. Always.

I hate it because I hate to be late but it doesn't matter if I start hours ahead of time. It's always something.  I cannot wait until DD2 is a little older. I've never enjoyed the newborn months.

  • I am very punctual and have been able to stay that way with 2 kids.  Often I am getting them ready by myself since DH is out of town or heads out the door earlier than I do.  I also work so being late in the mornings is not an option.

I have found that order is crucial.  I prepare as much as I can for the previous day every night.  There is always a diaper bag ready and a set of snacks in the fridge, even on the weekends.  I fear not being ready for an emergency.  I am a very Type A personality so that may be one thing that "helps", even though DH hates it that I am "anal" he loves that he always has everything ready incase I have to leave early and he is getting the kids ready.  I can now get us all 3 (2 kids and me) out of the house within 30 minutes.  Baths are at night so that is a big help.

In my house everything has a place so that if I am rushing I can easily get things done without running around like a headless chicken or forgetting things.  It will take time and cooperation from you and your DH to keep things in order but trust me.  Its the best thing ever.  Whenever the house is unorganized, then It tames me forever to get out of the house.
