I haven't posted on this board much but read a lot on here in the weeks leading up to my delivery. I ended up having an induction and before hand, I was really nervous because of all the horror stories I had heard about inductions so I thought I'd share my story for those of you who may need to be induced:
We arrived at the hospital at 7:30 am as planned and got the pitocin started at 8:30 am. By 10am, I wasn?t feeling any pain and was only at 3-4 cm but because my platelets were marginally low, the anesthesiologist thought it would be better to get the epidural sooner rather than later so we wouldn?t miss our window of opportunity. I decided to go ahead and get it even though I wasn't in pain yet and I had survived w/o with Ava. About 10:30 the doc came in and broke my water. Nick and I laid there and watched tv.. I could feel the contractions but they weren?t painful, just a little uncomfortable. At noon the nurse checked me and I was at 5cm and the contractions were coming every couple of minutes but didn?t feel like any big deal. Around this time, my mom stopped up to the hospital to see how things were going and we told her it would probably be late afternoon before I delivered and that it would be best for her to go home, get Ava from daycare, get her supper and come back around dinner time. My mom left the room at 1pm when the nurse came to check me and much to our surprise, I was already at 8cm. The nurse left Nick and I alone and said she?d be back in 30 mins. About 10 mins later, I told Nick it felt like I needed to push and to get the nurse. Sure enough when the nurse came back in at 1:15, I was fully dilated and ready to push! The doc was at another hospital doing rounds so they called her and she arrived at 1:35. I started pushing at 1:35 and Aubrey Grace Ginther came into the world at 2:09 pm, weighing in right at 8lbs and was 20.75? long. She has some fairly dark hair and looks exactly like Ava did when she was born. She scored 9,9 on her APGARS and is perfectly healthy! She is nursing like a champ already and we are so in love! For those of you who are expecting #2, this delivery was much easier than the first.. partly because I was able to have the epidural this time and not the last time but I also felt like I knew how/when to push. The epiural was amazing but a very strange feeling! I feel pretty good right now and the sorest thing on me is my back where the epidural went in..
