I have half a head of cabbage leftover from a recipe I'm making tonight. Can I put it in the freezer? I don't use cabbage too often, so I don't know the next time I'd use it!
Cabbage doesn't freeze well. I would use it for something else. Cabbage can add a lot of flavor to basic dishes. I like to add it to beef and veggie soup.
I haven't frozen cabbage before, but I freeze just about everything. I would probably shred it though so that way it defrosts easily. Or maybe you can just double whatever your making and then freeze one dinner for another time.
When I read your post it reminded me of one of my favorite old movies 'East of Eden' with James Dean. It was about how his dad was trying to freeze cabbage/lettuce and was trying to ship it across the country on a train. It didn't work.
Anyway, I don't really know much about it myself, but I don't think it would last well in the freezer.

lol, thanks for the heads up. If it didn't work for James Dean, it definitely won't work for me!
Lurker here... no, you can't freeze it, but it will last a while in the fridge.
I make a really healthy cole slaw about once every two weeks - no mayo. Just olive oil, lemon juice, peanuts, shredded carrots, cilantro and green onions. It stays crisp for about 4 days after I make it.. but the cabbage itself can keep for 2 weeks.
