do you ever leave the house with the kids by yourself? Mine will be almost 28 months apart and DD will probably be closer to 30 months by the time I am ready to expose DC#2 to the outside world but I'm still terrified at the thought of taking the 2 of them out by myself. Right now I watch a little girl 2 months younger than DD and I have yet to take them out in public by myself.
Re: Moms that already have 2u2
All. The. Time.
It helps to get out and about.
It's intimidating the first couple of times but you find your groove!
The trick in the beginning is to wear the baby (Moby wrap, baby bjorn, etc) so you've got your hands free to chase after the toddler.
You can do it!
Start practicing now and you'll have it all down before your second one even gets here.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Yes we are able to get out. Usually shorter trips, but we try to go out once a day. We do a lot of Target browsing, lol.
You really just have to be brave and jump right in. I knew if I waited too long I'd just build up the anxiety, so I started taking them out by myself just days after DH went back to work.
Think about it, what's the worst that can happen? One of them throws a fit and maybe you have to leave. You can deal with that
Ditto this. I have 3 and I get out ever day!
I went out by myself at 2 weeks PP all 3 times.
I like to get out at least once a day, if possible. It was super scary at first and I never thought I'd get the hang of it, but it's no big thing now. The only thing that I still don't like very much is getting them both out of the car in parking lots. If I get my toddler out first, it worries me she'll run off while I'm reaching for the baby...if I get the baby out first it's a lot harder to get the toddler out. Somehow we always work it out, though! Oh, and rain and/or snow makes it much harder too! You'll get used to it...seriously don't be scared and never go out anywhere...pretty soon you'll be answering a post like this remembering the days that you were scared to try
All the time -- and I was out with the two of them at 2 weeks postpartum, too.
When DS was small, I'd put DD in a carrier on my back and him in a sling on my front. Now that he's gotten much heavier, I put him in a front carry and DD walks or rides in the shopping cart.
We go out a lot (almost) everyday but there are days I do stay in now that its freezing out. I agree with the advice given above. Just do a test run, if you get to the store, one starts to throw a fit and you are getting anxious, turn around and come home. It's such a PIA, dressing them in the winter and then getting them out but once your out and not home, think of all the cleaning you won't have to do. My kids destroy the house so quickly that I'm starting to wonder why I stay home with them during the day and stay out all day long
GL...it's normal to be anxious but it will be ok!
this!
Ditto! Even though it is a PITA to get everyone ready and out the door, once we do it and I am SO glad we did
