Babies on the Brain

S/O Worst place you've ever lived and why

Philly: Long commutes from the 'Burbs to Center City (well I worked in a way rough part of town, so it was far AND dangerous.)

Corrupt: You paid an extra tax for the privelge of working in the city.

Real disparity in neighborhoods

COLD in the winter, hot and humid in the summer

Liked: I actually loved the people, but my Dad is from Boston so I am use to folks from the NE.

The food.  Like no place else.

Re: S/O Worst place you've ever lived and why

  • Both cities in California: Barstow and Hacienda Heights.

Barstow was a tiny city, but in the middle of nowhere. I loved it, if it was 20 miles closer to LIFE. THey had great outlets, caring people, and everything else I'd need.

HH is not the right place for us. It's jam-packed. It's very expensive, smoggy, and snotty/richy. However, it's close to everything, and we get paid well.

  • Hmmm. That's tough, I like everywhere I've lived for the most part.  Probably Sacramento though, the city was pretty boring and I had a psychotic roommate who failed to tell me she had a TODDLER until the day I moved in.

  • Petersburg, VA

DH's job moved us there and we were selling a house so his boss found us a house to rent (at no cost to us) for 6 months.  Petersburg has a high crime rate and is full of idiots.  We were at the only house in the neighborhood without an alarm system.

DH's assistant was also living with us...bad idea.  This guy was, at one time, a good friend and was in our wedding.  We quickly learned who he really was.  A lazy, no good, mooching sob.  This started 1 week after we were married so we had nothing close to a honeymoon period.  If we made it through that hell hole we can make it through anything.

  • Irvine. I just don't do the whole "planned development" thing very well. NMS.
  • Anyplace in Minnesota. It's -20 in the winter and 90 and humid in the summer. Plus you have to deal with people with Minnesota hair on a daily basis.

  • WV.....

No family only bought the land b/c DH came home injured from Iraq with some money to buy a house.  The commute to D.C. Sucked @#$%.  Worst place to  buy, not bad investment when we went to sell and move back home to Northern VA.

  • the Midwest.

    It is just so flaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

Oh, and where I went to school had shitastic shopping.

...and the people are kind of like Southerners who as I've said creep me out.

Although, boys from the Midwest are top-notch.

On a different note, I generally miss Phiadelphia.  Unlike, Poe, I love the nonsense there...and the dining is fabulous.

  • Compton - nuff said Stick out tongue.

I only lived there from birth to 9 years old.  My brother and I were walking home from school and was in the middle of a gang shooting.  I heard the shot and saw the smoke coming from the gun. We jumped behind some utility cabinet thing and stayed there for a while after the shooting stopped.

A few days later, my mom packed us up and moved us to her dad's farm in Oklahoma.  I haven't lived there in almost 30 years and I don't miss it at all.  I still have family members that live there and I rarely see them.

  • A crappy apartment in the not so nice part of Austin.  My car was broken and I had to ride the bus because my douchebag (aka ex-fiance)at the time wouldn't get off his lazy ass to fix it and we were to broke too pay to get it fixed.  After a girl was dragged into a field and raped while standing at the same bus stop I used, I told douchebag he was driving me everywhere until he fixed my car.  The car was magically fixed within a week.

After douchebag dumped me, I got out of there as quickly as I could.

  • Here.  We have no friends, everyone is so busy that we barely even know our freaking neighbors, I hate my commute, I hate my job, the COL is ridonkulous, and we live in a townhouse so we have no yard to speak of.

The shopping and eating are pretty great, though.

There are quite a few houses for sale in the neighborhood we're looking in.  Just sayin'.

I honestly walked in the third day after moving in and there was a little boy playing on the living room floor.  I asked her, "ummmm, who's that?" and she says, all nonchalant, "Oh, that's my kid. My parents technically adopted him but he'll be here every weekend."

Which is exactly what a college sophmore wants to hear, that every weekend she'll have a baby in her apartment.  Needless to say that living situation was quickly over.

  • Here. Its a beautiful area, we have a great house, a big yard and its very safe with great school districts.

BUT the COL is so freaking high, i have to deal with the North Shore Snobs (women who think the should be an OC housewife) the resturants and shoos are ok but crazy $$$, my land tax bill makes up almost half of my mortage, i hate my neighbors. We have NO friends here. i hate it. i feel trapped in the house all day because there is nothing to do and no one to go see.

  • Here.  Chicago is great to visit, but the COL sucks.  And the shopping is great, butvery $$$, and the taxes are out of this world, if you even manage to get to your destination through the nightmare traffic.

And this apartment, though I liked it at first, has an issue that is getting on my last nerve.

  • Northern Florida, it was way too hot for me, and I missed the seasons. I couldn't stand the southern accents (no offense anyone) and I didn't even live near the beach. I hated it so much.
