A vent: misinformation bugs me

A good friend of mine has a blog for her hometown newspaper.  A mommy blog if you will.  She's actually my best friend, was present for DD's birth and is DD's godmother.  She has three kiddos of her own, all c-section births.  When I was pregnant we talked a lot about my pregnancy and my hopes for a non-medicated birth.  In the end I had 24 hours of non-medicated labor, a few more with an epi and eventually a c-section.  On my personal and private blog I wrote a post after the holidays about my musings with DH about baby #2.  One thing I mentioned was my desire for a VBAC if and when we get to that point.  This led my friend to write a post for her blog about how my birth preferences and hopes for an unmedicated birth really alienated her and she felt like I marginalized her birth experiences.  We worked that out.  Had a wonderful heartfelt convo and got on the same page.  Well the comments to her blog post, which is about me remember, are just ridic.  About how ACOG recommends against VBAC.  About how most (most? really?) VBACs end up with repeat Cs and how that's good b/c they are so dangerous and should never be attempted risk of uterine rupture, death, blah blah blah.  It really has my blood boiling.  But I don't want to hijack her blog, which is for her an actual paying gig.  But at the same time people are talking about my wishes/hopes/and experiences and it's just burning me to no end.  FWIW she did check with me before she posted her post - gave me veto rights and everything which she did not have to do.  But you can never account for the idiocy people will post in comments.  Thanks - vent over.  I just had to get it out before she inevitably calls me to see it I'm ok.

Re: A vent: misinformation bugs me

  • This is why I can never follow through with my blogs. If I was truly honest about how I felt about every situation in my life, I would alienate everyone I care about.

Hopefully someone will pop in with some good information, or since she wrote it about you, you should pop in there. Every blog needs a little light drama to keep the readers coming back :)

I actually made that joke earlier in the week - b/c the discussion in the comments is really rolling and I thought it was good for her that she got a post with so many hits.  Of course the commentor is anonymous which makes me wonder if it's another friend of ours (even more dangerous).  I did comment and correct that ACOG information at least but since I don't comment anon I'm sure I've po'd another friend.  Grrrr.

Then why didn't you veto it?

Because I'm not venting about her post - her post was about the feelings my desire for a non-medicated birth caused her to have about her three previous c-sections.  The VBAC comment that irks me is in the comments to her post and not something I could have controlled.

  • Misinformation yes, but who really goes to random mommy blogs for medical info?

Just let it be. I'm sure someone else will comment on her blog about VBACs.
