Babies on the Brain

so that I don't annoy you all with wedding stuff

(too late for some, I know)  I am typing my re-intro post on the Etiquette board on the Knot.  SO BIZARRE.  Curious to see if they choose to be snarky.

Oh, and the layout of the knot boards STINKS.  Crap along the top, slow to load, and not easy to move between the boards.  Urgh.

  • Yeah, I came over to the Bump via the Knot, and to be honest only ever posted there once or twice. Did not like.

    Edit-

Oh, yeah and Ditto Isha and Wee.

  • The layout of the Knot sucks ass, therefore I vote that you just post over here.  Plus I want to hear about it!
  • We want to hear! It's been a while for most of us, weddings are exciting!

You know, I'm a licensed officiant...

  • I also make a spectacular invitation.

Could not agree more. I am helping my SIL out and I can not even use the boards, my computer just freezes. They should really fix that.

  • Seriously?  I think some folk get annoyed.

Right now I am trying to think:

-What time should the wedding ceremony take place if sunset is at 7 and we want to do it outside?  I will start the 'party' one hour before that time.

    - A. doesn't love my dress.  She essentially doesn't like the fitted shape.  I really love the dress I have chosen.  I am hoping she will too when the dress actually fits.  I feel a bit hurt because my sister and friend agree with her.  Excitement about the dress is gone.

-We have chosen these invites: https://www.whiteaisle.com/sonoma_diy_invitation_2009.html

-I am freaking out about the cost, but I guess $9-10K for a wedding isn't ludicrous and I will be paying half of the total.  But that money was the baby fund.  Ugh.

  • Oh, and I LOVE wedding stuff! So in other words, annoy us:)
  • Personally, more times than not I would rather talk about wedding than babies. I loved planning mine!

I think if you post in the title that it's wedding related those who don't want to read about it will avoid.

I love the invites but feel they are a little pricy.  I made our myself and they were about $2.00 per invitation including postage, just a thought.

Ways to trim your budget could include cutting down on flowers, my centerpieces were the BM's bouquets and the other tables were candles.  Also we didn't do a cake (dh doesn't like cake) we did assorted desserts and cut a small cheesecake.

ETA:  I looked more closely at the invitation you like and they are pretty affordable.  Go with them and have the response cards be post cards or do what my friend is doing, set up an email account people can rsvp to that  way there is 0 postage there!

Ditto. I personally don't mind it at all :-)

  • We actually aren't having flowers - weird, I know.  Our budget is hard to trim if we go with this venue.  It is a fortune, but exactly the feel A. wants, and the food is amazing.

Our expenses: venue, $255 cake (important to us), $50 license, @50 for permit to do it outside, photographer, officiant, two dresses at @900 a piece with alterations, $90 invitations. No band, no flowers, no favors, no hotel, no transportation. I think I may even wear the shoes I wore to my first wedding - I just need to decide whether that is bringing cheap too far.

  • Well, if you already have home stuff maybe people will give you $ for wedding gifts and you can use that to pump the baby fund back up.

$1800 for a wedding dress is not that unreasonable so the fact that you got 2 for that much is great.

I don't really know where else you could cut back.

I gotta be honest, I think this is more than reasonable.  Especially for a city.  I think you are being very responsible with costs.  And truthfully, even though we went a little over budget with ours, I don't regret a cent.  The tiny regrets I do have are that I went with a couple of cheaper vendors.  I wish I would've just spent the money.

GL!  I know it'll be beautiful!

I got married in September, when according to this site was about 7 pm. My ceremony was scheduled at 4, actually started about 4:30. The sun was low enough to provide more golden than harsh overhead light, and the photos afterwards had some really pretty lighting.
