Remind me, fever related...

I know if I call the Pedi they will say "Oh just bring her in." We get there. "Oh, she has a fever? Give her motrin and plenty of fluids! And give us $200 on the way out!"

DD started with a slight fever on Monday and today it was up to 103.4.  When I give her Motrin it comes right down but goes back up again when it wears off.  How long can they have a fever before it becomes a "have to see the doctor" fever?

  • maybe it's an ear infection?  I, personally, would rather err on the side of caution and go in. that's a pretty  high fever for this length of time

  • I think after three days you should check in with the doctor.

She has never had one before but maybe!  She doesn't even act sad or anything, just cuddles all day.  I guess we should try and make it in tomorrow before the weekend. Poor girl.

  • DS had a fever that fluctuated from 101-103 for 4 days.  On the fourth day, I finally brought him in and the pedi said he probably had Roseola.  Sure enough, by the next morning he had broken out in the rash and his fever was gone.

FWIW, my pedi said it's not so much the fever but rather how they are eating, drinking, and acting.  DS was acting perfectly normal and the meds always brought his fever down (and he was eating well), so that's why the nurses had me wait so long.  He also said the fever can't hurt anything until it gets into the 106 range.  I would put in a call to your nurse line at least for peace of mind, though, if possible.
