Read2Me's post below about her daughter putting puzzles together got me thinking about the things that our LOs do that amaze us. Here's your chance to brag.
Ben amazes me that he has such a big vocabulary. I know he knows what these big words mean because he uses them in the right context. The other day he said was going in the bathroom to pee pee and said "he would be back temporarily". He also said "Daddy needs to hack off that tree limb". I mean the kid has a bigger vocabulary than some of my kindergarteners...;o)

I've been casually working with Ben on teaching him the letters of the alphabet. I realized a week or two ago that if asked, he can identify all of them with the exception of X and Y. For some reason, he has trouble with those.
He also knows the sounds of half of the letters. In fact, we were at the grocery store today, and he kept pointing to signs and sounding out different letters. And when he does, he gets really proud of himself. It's pretty cute. I'm amazed at how quickly he picked this up and it makes me feel better about the fact that he's not as talkative as some other kids his age.
My MIL picks up DD from daycare and she teaches her to sing on the way home. For Chrismas she sang Jingle Bells and still is. She also knows Jesus Loves Me and Row, Row, Row your Boat. Ealier this week she taught her our street name and number and we are working on the city and state. I am amazed daily with this one. DD know so much more than my first two.......

That's great!! As a kindergarten teacher, I would love to have your child in my room--I do teach in a very low income, high ESOL school, but still...80 % of them do not know any letters or sounds. Keep up the great work, Mama!!

Henry uses correct words, like "My toy is broken" or "the car is going slowly." He can count to 13. My favorite thing, though, is that he is the huggiest, kissiest, most cuddly boy - and he loves his mama so much!
Some of this may be "normal" for a 2 year old, but I am going to brag anyways: Sings several songs including "Jingle Bells" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" Knows all of his colors Tells us that it is time to go to bed right around 7pm and goes to sleep w/ no fight and sleeps for 11 hours Still takes a 2+ hr nap each day Is doing pretty well with counting (he has his good days!) Has a huge vocabulary and talks non-stop (People often think he is older than 2 b/c he talks so well)
Hmmm... what else. Oh, and he is the most handsome little dude you've ever seen (white blonde hair and beautiful blue eyes)!
My son knows most of the months of the year and understands what happens in each. He says October- trick or treat. November- turkey dinner December- Santa Claus, etc. He always forgets April - probably because there are no fun holidays for him!
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
Dd has started writing some letters (she's been resisting... "you write it." and then telling me how to, but not doing it herself) ... She's got L, E and F down pat... nothin' like straight lines to help. lol. She recognizes some words... recognizes letters lower and uppercase and says the sounds, knows her numbers and counts to 30. oh and dd knows the difference between lichen and moss... and recognizes a few different types of dinosaurs.... thanks to daddy.
Ds sings the alphabet, sings twinkle twinkle to me... also still singing some Christmas tunes to me (santa claus is coming... and jingle bells are big hits). He recognizes a few letters. Knows his colors most of the time. and can count to 20. He's also really cute at putting his train tracks together. lol.
and they remember EVERYTHING. God help us... they remember it all.

Thanks! I love that you are a kindergarten teacher. If I had to do it all over again, that's what I would have done.
And I LOLed that your son would be back "temporarily". That's amazing that he has such a great vocabulary!
DS knows all his letters - uppercase, lowercase, vowels, and consonants and is now learning to sound out short words. Speaks in complete sentences and knows all his senses, where his brain is, what his esophagus does, and how his food travels. I'm a proud mama. I'll stop there.

Memorizes entire books - about 20 of them, so far. She'll lie in bed and recite "Where the Wild Things Are."
Ditto this. She says "I read it" and does! Well, I know she's just memorized it but pretty amazing. And she doesn't have to hear it often to have it memorized. Their minds are so amazing at this age.
In addition to the puzzles, Eva amazes me with her memory. She can talk about things that she did months ago like they just happened yesterday. Plus she is beginning to make associations between things. For example last night we had mussels for dinner- Eva was holding one of the shells and said, "kind of like a butterfly" and we agreed; then she went on to point out how the shells looked like "flapping wings." She'll also point out things in one book and compare them to things in another. It is so cool how complex her thinking is at such a young age.
What a good reminder! I've been a little annoyed with DD's whininess lately.
DD's imaginative play has really taken off just in the last week or so. Today we played "restaurant" for almost 2 hours. She wanted to be "a waiter who works at the restaurant who is a man."

I'm amazed on the memory of my DD. She can remember people's names that she only met once or twice. She remembers going to certain places and certain events that happened there. I can barely remember what happened yesterday, let alone 4 mths ago. Oh well I'm glad that her experinces are great enough to remember them.

My DD can say most of her alphabet and recognizes some of them. She can count to ten. Has a vocabulary that is huge, some of the things she comes up with simply amaze me! She knows a lot of her colors. She sings twinkle twinkle, itsy bitsy, and the alphabet so far! She can put some of her own shoes on. Her little mind is really amazing to watch as it grows!

5losses from 7/4/10 through 11/22/11 - “When the world says, “Give up,” Hope whispers, ‘Try it one more time."♥
AW! So fun to read what others' little ones are doing!
One thing I miss about having toddlers is how quickly they learn, and how fun it is to watch them tick off the cognitive milestones.
Even though my kids are older, I'll play too:
DS -- since Christmas he has learned to read well enough to pick up pretty much any picture book and read it himself. He will be reading really fluently by the time he starts kindergarten next fall!
DD -- started 4th grade at the "highly gifted" magnet school this year. She has gotten all A's even at the magnet. At parent teacher conferences, her teacher told me that "even among the g/t kids, she's exceptional!" Wow!
To those moms whose 2 y/os are saying stuff like "I'll be back temporarily" -- that's what my DD was like at 2.
What a good reminder! I've been a little annoyed with DD's whininess lately.
DD's imaginative play has really taken off just in the last week or so. Today we played "restaurant" for almost 2 hours. She wanted to be "a waiter who works at the restaurant who is a man."
Ditto this! DD is so into pretend play right now! She loves to play w/ her princess barbie dolls, dollhouse, my little ponies, and at times she just pretends she's characters on t.v. or in a story she just read and she'll say....mom I'm Belle and you're the Beast. I'm pretending it's time to go to the ball....It amazes me how well she carries on a conversation/pretend play. Her imagination is so impressive right now.
well, compared to all your talkers, I feel like DS is an idiot.
He can count to 3, and then 6-10. he can not say F words and refuses to say 4, 5.
DS is physically ahead. he can throw a baseball overhand 10-15 ft. he can use his golf clubs and actually hit the ball in the air regularly. and when he does, he says try again and then corrects himself and does it right.
education wise, he can recognizes the letters in his name, and say E for Ethan, M for Mama, and D for dada. recognizes those letters.
Mostly i am proud of his physical skills though!! probably because i am a HUGE sports addict and would love for him to play sports and stay interested!!
DD knows all of her letters - she can pick them out or say them. She also knows that D is for Daddy, M is for Mommy, P is for Poppa and G is for Gramma. She can also sing most of the alphabet song. For some reason she always skips DEFG.
She can count to 12. She also knows all these numbers by sight.
She knows most basic colors, along with a few shapes (square, circle, triangle, diamond, hexagon).
She can put her own pants on, and can get her socks about halfway on.
Love this post! It's been a while since I've read every comment on such a long thread...it was fun.
I'm most proud of how well behaved my 2 year old boy is. He'll put things in the garbage if I tell him it's garbage, he says "sorry" when he bumps into someone or if he trips over his toys he appologizes to them. He loves sharing and will pretend to poor drinks for even his 4 month old sister. He's super patient if I remind him to be patient he'll stand quietly and wait while I finish what I'm doing for as long as 10 minutes.
He can also identify and say 18 letters of the alphabet and has an intense interest in construction equipment. He knows things I'd never heard of before like rollers and graders and pavers. Not to mention crew egress tanks and goose neck trailors.
I love that he's constantly bringing me books to read, and not always the same ones.
As for DD, she's still so young, but she loves to laugh and smile and will even giggle if I kiss her belly. She stares intensely at me when I speak french to her saying rhymes or singing songs. I can't wait to find out what her interests and abilities will be.
Some of this may be "normal" for a 2 year old, but I am going to brag anyways: Sings several songs including "Jingle Bells" and "Baa Baa Black Sheep" Knows all of his colors Tells us that it is time to go to bed right around 7pm and goes to sleep w/ no fight and sleeps for 11 hours Still takes a 2+ hr nap each day Is doing pretty well with counting (he has his good days!) Oh what I would give for my DD to have his sleeping habits!

i am amazed with how well Carson can talk and carries on a convo with me and dh.
i love how he loves rock and roll and he can throw a football like nobody's business.
i love to hear him count in Spanish, that still amazes me when i hear it - thanks daycare!
What I've been bragging about the most right now is DD doing her ABC's and counting to 10 :-)

My daughter is about 1 year ahead vocabulary wise (per the doctor)
She also drew this:
She's 2 1/2

My daughter is 4. She can do one arm cartwheels and knows every single one of the cheers my high school cheerleaders do.
And she knows about 50 sight words! Which is insane.
