? for those with hardwood floors

we have hardwood floor throughout our house and i feel like they are impossible to keep clean.

maybe b/c i have a dog that sheds and tracks dirt in the house, but they're a real PITA.

how often do you clean your floors? i clean mine at least once a week but i feel like i could do them everyday and they still wouldn't be spotless for long.

  • I know how you feel, we have dogs too.  I dont clean them nearly enough.  It takes so long to pick up all of DS's stuff and move everything out of the way

  • We have to sweep once a day because we have 2 big dogs. Then we do the deep clean once a week. I don't like to keep a bunch of rugs because I think that helps that house smell more like dog.
  • What do you mean by "clean". I vacuum our laminate floors everyday and mop them once a week. We have two cats, so we have constant tumbleweeds of hair rolling around the floors.

  • I vacuum or sweep them almost daily. Sometimes twice a day on the weekends when we're home all day. I use my steam mop on them once or twice a week. We don't have any animals though.

This, but we have 3 dogs and the floor gets mopped 2x a week or as needed.

  • We (usually *I*) vacuum every...well... not often enough, but every couple-several days. If the dog tracks in extra grime I will Swiffer, but Embarrassed I usually wait for our cleaning lady/crew to do the deep cleaning every other week.

Writing this out, it sounds gross, but I promise the floors aren't filthy. They obviously could just be cleaner.

  • I sweep (swiffer) every few days or so, for the dog hair.  I used to do it every day, but I started brushing my dogs every day and that has cut down on the amt. they shed IMMENSELY!!!  It's great.

    I mop once a week.

We have 2 dogs, but one of them is a 3 pound Chi, so she goes potty on potty pads.  Our Rat Terrier goes outside, but we wipe her paws before she comes back in the house, so that helps keep the floors clean, and our furniture!!

  • They get mopped every two weeks. We have a roomba that runs at least once a day (at least if my boys have anything to say about it) so that takes care of excess pet hair.
  • i have a pup that sheds too and a dh who drags his muddy construction boots through the house (grrrr).

we vacum and swiffer with a damp cloth almost daily and have a hosue keeper that comes 2x/week to do deep cleaning. it's a pain, but they are so much prettier!  and we have rugs that cover most of the area so it's just hallways and around the edges of the room we have to keep up with.

  • We have to sweep every single day because of our dogs. It needs to be moped at least once a week because of our dogs.  Whenever I get frustrated I think of how much worse carpet would be with the build up and smells. If we didn't have dogs, I'd love carpet though!
  • I vacuum once a week for dust and dirt and hair, and I mop the dining room floor probably 3-4 times a week (DD is a messy eater).

I'd probably do it more often but I work FT and would rather spend free time playing with DD. lol

yeah, we don't let the dog on our furniture, and he is only allowed downstairs at any given time, or pinned in the kitchen if he is really dirty til dad can give him a bath.

I sweep daily and mop weekly but ugh it's so frustrating.

  • In the summer I try and brush the dog outside every other day which really helps.  So now the winter sucks.

I vacuum at least 2x a week and sweep if it seems needed.  We take off our shoes in the winter which also really helps.  I steam mop 1-2x a week.

DS has just decided that he loves the swiffer sweeper.....so I am not complaining about that!  :)

  • i use the "shark" wet mop every single day.  Its crazy between the baby and the rest of the family. 5 indoor cats i sweep a billion times a day and mop at night sometimes twice a day.

This is our routine...although DD hates the 'oooooomba'!!  I also have a steam cleaner, so that's what I use.  I do tend to 'mop' the kitchen more often than rooms like the dining room (which gets done as needed).

  • I swipe them up about 1x a week and use the cleaner that they gave us about every 2 weeks.  I have 3 kids - so I do them when I can.

They don't show the dirt nearly as bad as our carpets did.

My DD was horrible with her sippy cup and would spill milk all over the place.  I would try to clean it up the best I could, but after a while the carpet started getting white spots.  It grossed me out that both my DD & the boys crawled around on the carpets.

I was soo happy when we finally got the hardwood floors.  The house smells cleaner and they don't show the dirt as much as the carpets did.

  • If I had all the time in teh world I would vacuum daily.  As it is I do it once a week.  There is always dog hair on the ground.
  • We don't wear shoes in our house, so I think that helps a lot.  I swivel sweep once a day,  and around the table after each meal- dd always manages to get crumbs on the floor!  I mop once or twice a week.
  • We have 2 large dogs which mean the downstairs (except the dining room as they are not allowed in there) is vacuumed every day.  I swiffer the kitchen twice a week and the rest of the downstairs once a week.

It is a pain but I definitely think it is better than carpet.

  • Sweep daily. Swiffer wet twice a week. Full mopping every other week.

We have the same tumbleweeds! I love that term :)

  • I usually do a light sweep every couple days to get the clumps of dog hair up and then we have a small vacuum that works on hardwood and carpet. I love it because it doesn't take very long. I run the vacuum over the floors to get the remaining hair and other dust. Now mopping the floors is a lot harder for me!
