2nd Trimester

Please help me poop...

I was hoping to get advice on how to get more "regular".

What are approved medicines or tricks I can use.  I eat fruits and veggies regularly, it's not helping.

I'll be forever in debt to those who help me with this!

Re: Please help me poop...

  • I take papaya extract vitamins. I have 2-3 after every meal and it works like a charm. I would check with your dr. First to make sure they're okay with you taking them...but that's my trick. I've also heard good things about Activia. GL!

  • Prune juice. It really works! That and collard greens.

  • plumsmart juice by sunsweet.  its plum juice so all the benefits of prune juice without the nasty taste

also a ton of celery because of the water content will usually do it for me.

  • Hot water with lemon.  Seriously works everytime for me
  • Prune juice, Raisin Bran,  and Surlak helps me!
  • I have a morning shake w/ milk, Activia yogurt, a banana, and some frozen strawberries.  I'm not a huge yogurt person but my grandma swears by that Activia stuff so I tried it in a shake and lone behold, it works!  Downfall to this - it took over a week for things to get regular.  :(  I did take some Colace once a day until everything became regular that seemed to help alot!
  • Thanks ladies.  I'm going to look like I have some serious issues based on all these pooping remedies that are going to be in my shopping cart tonight :)
  • Not sure if you're avoiding caffeine or even a coffee drinker (I'm not) but I've heard from other Bumpies that 1 cup of coffee has done the trick & it's well below the 200mg/day guideline.

  • Colace and metamucil

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again, even though it sounds ridiculous.

Put your feet up when you're on the toilet. Either prop them up on a wall if there's one in front of you, or make a ball and put your feet on the front part of the toilet seat. I do that, hug my shins, and something about being in that position makes things move. It works for me 75% of the time.

If you can't sit like that, try propping your feet up with something else. Something about leaning back and lifting your knees really helps. I know it sounds crazy, but I don't care. It works for me.

  • If you up your fiber intake, make sure you are also getting enough water/hydration.  Lots of fiber without enough water will bind you up even more.

I found 1 liter + of water a day, 5 fresh fruits or veggies, oatmeal, and some olive oil (about a T.) keep things moving along.

  • It helps me when I drink more water, and take some fiber with dinner.
  • Raisin Bran (I prefer Raisin Bran Crunch)

Also, it sounds weird but sometimes letting hot water run on my lower back when I'm in the shower gets things moving a little.

  • 200 mg of colace a day for me.

My doctor started me out on 100mg/day...didn't work.  Then I went 100mg one day and 200mg the next...didn't work.

Now I'm on 200mg per day.

    I definitely need more fiber.

  • Miralax...it's over the counter at the pharmacy. It's a powder you can add to juice and it works for me.
  • I am a little late on this but I have had some major constipation issues up until a few days ago. I seriously tried EVERYTHING (prunes, fruits, fiber supplements, Activia, several types of stool softeners, several types of laxatives and suppositories) but increasing my water intake has been the only thing that helps. I was previously drinking the required 8 glasses but I upped it by 3 or 4 glasses and the results are amazing. I have to pee constantly but I am so much more comfortable than I had been!
