Bedrest Mama's Daily Check-In***Thursday

Name - Michelle

Due Date - 4/20

Date Placed on Bedrest - at 14wks

Type - Modified Bedresst

Why - Herniated disks in back/now having some contractions that worry the docs as well..

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

Answer- Ug, I live in Duluth, MN and it is soooo cold and nasty here.  It's been a pretty harsh winter.  I think it's easier to be on bedrest during the winter because I wouldn't be able to do any hiking with the cold and ice anyways.  I do really want to go sledding though and can't.  But all in all, I think having it in winter is best.....Although, if we were on bedrest in summer and could get to the beach without walking, would we be able to lay on the beach all day and have it count as rest?  hmmm....

Updates:  Sorry I missed you ladies yesterday.  I over did it the last few days and my body was done.  Today I'm not allowed to leave bed/couch at all to try and get myself back on track.  But at least I can have the computer!  I'm starting to get nervous that this baby has plans to try and visit sooner than we'd like.  I'm feeling more run down and just plain off lately.  I'll be on stricter bedrest for awhile to see if that helps.  Fingers crossed!

Lauren...thanks for asking about the diaper party.  It was really neat and I got a bunch of stuff ordered.  I'm really excited about it and was glad that I got to see stuff/touch stuff and ask questions about how it all worked.  What a great thing to do.  I did start getting some pretty tough contractions and had to split, but Livy waited till the end and once I got home in bed, it calmed down pretty quick!

Jennifer....just had to say that I'm also a crime tv junkie.  I've watched the entire series of Criminal Minds twice while on bedrest as well watching the shows you mentioned!

To all you ladies...T&P's to you keeping your LO's cooking!  I hope you all are keeping your spirits up and BP's/sugar levels/stress, ect...down!  Take care of yourselves and your LO's!

Date Placed on Bedrest -1/4 (34 weeks)

    Type - Modified Bed rest

    Why - PTL

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

Answer-Here in Northern NJ it's cold, high of 20 today.  I'm happy that it's the winter time, I would have been so sad if I couldn't go outside and play with my dogs in the warm weather.

Update: I have been having some much stronger contractions, and I've noticed a lot more cramping lately.  I go to the dr tomorrow for a check up and to see if I've dilated at all.  The baby only has to stay in 3 more days to make the Dr feel comfortable delivering him early, but she really wants him to last until the very end of January. I really want him to last until February 10th, which is my original c-section date.

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

Answer-I think its been cold and snowy lol I say I think because I dont have a great view out of my hospital room window but everyone has been complaining about it being cold (im in Northern KY) I definitely think being on BR is easier in the winter--in the beginning of my pregnancy (in the summer) i was stuck inside w/ bad hyperemesis and IV therapy and it sucked to not be able to go outside much--in the summer I would feel like i was missing out more-at least w/ crappy weather I feel like "well I wouldve been staying inside anyway..."

Update: I had my NICU consult today which was good to be able to ask a bunch of questions but scary at the same time. I found out some survival percentages and stuff like that which were hard to hear (even though they were pretty good its scary to think that there is that chance little buddy wont make it) I also found out all the interventions he is going to need which is scary to think about all those tubes, etc. but I know that it will be to help him--im just waiting and praying till my u/s on tues. when I find out what the verdict is as to whether i stay on bedrest cuz its helping or if I will be induced

Michelle--what kind of CD's did you order? I was thinking about cd'ing b/c my older sister cd w/ her 3 boys and now that they are older (and she wont be having anymore kids for a few years) she said I could have all her newborn and small CD's--plus I think little baby hiney's in cloth diapers are so cute haha

  • Lauren...I'll have to get the names/brands of the ones I got.  I saw so many that I don't remember what I ended up ordering!  And yes, their little bums are sooo cute in C/D.  Plus, I love that I'm not having so much waste.  DH and I started recycling and composting awhile back and barely have any garbage.  That would change if we used disposables!  And the babies in my family have a tendancy to have super sensitive skin and need C/D to not have rashes anyways. :-)  I'll let you know!

Date Placed on Bedrest: 10/29 @ 19 weeks - released to light duties on 1/4/10 @ 29 weeks

    Type - modified bedrest

    Why - Possible IC

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

I am in the Mississippi Delta and if you had asked last week you would have thought I lived in New York. It was so cold. This week is much better. About 35-40 degrees which is good winter weather. I am glad I was on bedrest during the winter because I can not stand the cold. During the holiday people would stop by and say how cold it was and I could only say, I am glad I am not out in the cold right now.

Updates: I have returned to work but since returning, LO seems to not like all the moving around. Guess he is spoiled from the bedrest. The moment I get home and get in bed, he is up and ready to play. Just jumping everywhere. I am still working on finding a schedule that does not overdue it. This week I have been working 10-5 but I think I need a break at the halfway point in order to avoid overdoing it. I go back to the doctor on Monday at which point we will start with monitoring the baby and checking for contractions. According to my doctor, if I contract I deliver so I hope that does not happen anytime soon.

Lauren, I just realized we had the same EDD (unless its my pregnancy brain and I just forgot which happens a lot lately). Anyway, just wanted to say hang in there. LO will be fine cause God is the best doctor of all times and he will be sure to take care of your precious baby. By the way, I love your siggy pic. You look great.

Date Placed on Bedrest: Hospitalized 1/4; Home 1/6

Type - modified bedrest at home

    Why -Shortened cervix, PTL

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

I'm in Indianapolis and it was pretty cold last week and this weekend. Today it was above freezing and the snow is melting. I leave the blinds open as I sit on the recliner all day and I have concluded that being on bedrest in winter is waaaay better than the summer. If it were summer I would want to get up and be outside. I wonder if I could recline in a lawn chair - anywho. I am satisfied with my season.

Updates: I'm sad I missed yesterday! I went to the doctor and there were no changes, still 2 cm and 75% effaced. LO's head is really low. My doctor was really happy with my progress and said that at this point the cost/benefits of procardia just aren't worth it so no more medication. So if I go into labor today and going forward she won't stop it. I am really small with a borderline pelvis and if we wait too long I have to have a csection so my membranes will be stripped at 37 weeks if I make it that far. Also, she said I can go on small errands now. No long shopping trips - which is impossible being that I can barely walk! So i'm just sitting here baking the baby. No contractions, I actually feel great today.

Michelle I hope your at home restricted bedrest works. Keep your oven on high!

Lauren - do you care to share some of the survival/hospitalization percentages? I spent about an hour reading up on it today.

  • Name -Debbie

    Due Date - 9/03

Date Placed on Bedrest -at 4 weeks

    Type -strict bedrest

Why - weak cervix, and recurrent miscarriages

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

Answer- it's cold and raining alot better than being stuck in bed during the summer.

Updates: had some very light pinkish on the TP this morning and I have'nt spotted since .

  • Justblessed- I think we do have the same due date, 3/23? It seems so far away but I know that little buddy will be born before that (more likely than not) have they predicted whether your LO will make it to his/her due date?

Chelsea- the neonatologist gave me statistics on a baby being born at 29 weeks--she said that a normal sized 29 week old baby has a 95% survival rate but she said since there is a chance my baby will be smaller than a 29 week old baby (because he is measuring so small) that the survival rate drops a little bit to about 85-90% survival rate. She also said that baby's born smaller than 29 weeks usually have about a 10-15% chance of having long term effects such as cognitive delays, feeding issues, etc. I am hoping that LB has grown by my next u/s (its on the 19th) she said that once a baby makes it gestationally past 29 weeks even if they are born early they obviously have a higher than 95% survival rate so I would say your LO has a great chance w/ you being at 35wks!

Date Placed on Bedrest: 12/31; hospitalized overnight 12/30, hospitalized overnight 1/11

Type - strict bedrest at home

    Why - hypertension; pre-e risk

Question of the Day - What is the weather like where you are and are you happy that you are on bedrest during the winter vs summer or would you rather have it the other way around?

Here in Dallas the weather is pretty mild in the winter and HOT in the summer.  However, last week it was COLD here (well, for Texas) and I was ok with not having to get out in it.  This week, though, we have highs in the upper 50s and 60s.  Overall, I'd probably rather be on bedrest when it's 100+ than when it's cooler outside because at least it's bearable outside when it's cooler.  During the summer, you step outside and you're immediately drenched in sweat and the heat can be so oppressive it's hard to breath!  Plus, I'm a teacher, so it wouldn't be such a big deal financially if I was on bedrest during the summer........

Updates:  No updates really other than for some reason I've been exhausted today.  I don't think I'm sleeping well at night.  I still haven't gotten my results from the 24 hour urine test.  I'm going to go with "no news is good news."  Right?

*Chelsea - we have the same EDD Smile

*Michelle - I've never watched Criminal Minds.  I'll have to add that to my list because I'm starting to watch the same episodes of L&O over and over again.
