Medical records question - is this normal?

So I went to pick up my medical records, and wanted to confirm that the films were included. They told me no. They said I had to call somewhere else to get my HSG films, and when I asked about my saline sono images (I just had one) she said they weren't included either and they couldn't include them. She said all they have is the print out from the sono machine, they don't have a scanner that scans images, and she could send me a copy via fax but they would be completely useless (which she did and they are).

Has anyone else had difficulty getting these images? I don't want to have to take the tests over again...

FWIW - the office staff was totally unhelpful and my records are in no order at all and I'm betting that not everything is there.

They should have everything. I work at a hospital, and EVERYTHING is kept by Medical Records. If you request it, they give it to you. Even if it's kept electronically, they should be able to print it out. Does the doctor have to run around all over creation collecting your images? They should have it somewhere.

I just had the same issue with none of my scans included in my records. There should however be reports on what the scans showed included in your file, not the same but something.

I did not get the films from my HSG or the pics from my lap when I requested my medical records - and those were from two different REs. All I got was the written report from the procedures.

That is how it works here. If you want original film copies of anything having to do with radiology then you have to get the actual films from the radiology company. I just had to do this with a film from my ankle fracture. I called radiology company they said go to our storage facility and pick them up. The films were only 2 mos old. My doc said they just don't have the space to keep everyone's xrays anymore and the radiology lady said this is pretty standard procedure for them now a days.

My doc said if you don't go get the original films they just give them photocopies and they aren't worth crap.

I had my HSG done at a hospital so I had to go there to get my films. My saline sono was done at the REs with the sono machine, but I actually never requested that (it was just to confirm everything was gone after my m/c) so I'm not sure.

I work in medical records. You typically do have to go to a different dept to get your films. Also with sonos... they don't typically keep any film of the scan other than the crappy pics you already got. BUT the doc or tech should have documented an "interpretation" of the scan... which should be in your medical record.

This - I never got any of my u/s scans, just progress tracker sheets for my cycles and notes on procedures.

Ok - well I do have the documented notes about the saline sonos and HSG - hopefully that's enough to get the ball rolling at least?
