Re: anyone have an alternative vaccine schedule??

  • Sorry,  we basically used Dr. Sears with the exception of refusing the Hep B and chicken pox for now.

  • We used Sears as a starting off point but quickly deviated once it became obvious that the risks to my daughter were different than the risks Sears addressed.  If your doctor is already open to an alternative schedule why not approach each vaccine separately and discuss the actual risks to your child while also keeping in mind things like aluminum content/known side effects.  It's really not that difficult.  We've skipped Hep B (and will until pre-teen if at all) and rotavirus, paired IPV and Prevnar, and paired DTaP with HiB.  Her upcoming 6 months appt we'll have another discussion as it's now time to add flu (if we choose) and one other that is slipping my mind right now.

  • We are starting to vaccinate at 6 months. My doctor said she will go over all the possible schedules as it gets closer. My doctor is awesome :)

  • After reading "both sides" so to speak, you should be informed enough to make a decision on when and what vaccines to give your LO. I'm not sure that there are any other alternative schedules listed as most people are "all or nothing" when it comes to this.

Good luck with your decision. :)

  • I told my doctor that I only wanted to do 2 vaccines at a time, and he came up with his own schedule based on what he felt was important - and what is prevalent in our area, DS's daycare sitaution, etc.

My doctor did not recommend rotavirus so we skipped that completely. I also don't think he plans on doing Hep A right now. We are currently finishing up our baby shots, and we will start on the 1 year shots at the next appt., I think. I can't even remember what order we went in now, but we didn't do the same 2 shots at every appt. He switched it up. And I only had to go in for 1 extra appt. aside from the normally scheduled appts., and he thinks we will be caught up with everything by age 2.

I would just talk to your doctor and see what he recommends.

  • We did Dr. Sears with the exception of the hep b and the chicken pox.  (same as first poster)
  • We are using the schedule from "What Your Doctor's Doesn't Tell You About Childhood Vaccinations".  I forget the author.....
