Hopefully my last bread making related question

After you make it, how do you slice it evenly?  Are there cheap bread slicing gagets out there?

Re: Hopefully my last bread making related question

  • I'm anti- "unitaskers" (a la Alton Brown). A good quality serrated knife will work just fine.

  • LOL, I know.  Usually I am on board with that, but I SUCK at cutting bread.  Like the worst cutter ever.  Nothing pisses me off more than unevenly sliced bread.

  • I wait until it is completely cool (which is hard), then use a serrated knife. It usually comes out pretty even.

  • OK, so "cheater" trick (although, they do this at DH's bakery so I'm not sure how much it's cheating): just use a ruler and a sharpie to mark 1/2" (or whatever size) dashes on the edge of your cutting board and use the marks as a guide.
