Maternity Pants Advice Please

Ok, so I am not the biggest person in the world.  Pretty petite- not even 5 foot and with gaining weight from the pregnancy I only weight about 108 lbs.  So..... a lot bigger than I am used to, but still pretty small.  Jeans are getting really uncomfortable because of the waist bands and buttons- they almost hurt me all day.  I unbutton them and do the whole rubberband thing but that hasn't helped.  I decided this weekend I would go get some maternity pants with certainty that they would fit me..... WRONG.  I need to gain another good 10-15 pounds until the smallest size will fit.  I live in lounge around pants with a cute long shirt and cute flats for work.  I went a bought some more leggins because that is what I am most comfortable in.  I feel like my bump is HUGE... but I guess not!  It's just way different that what I am used to!  Am I just not finding the right sizes or what?  Suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Re: Maternity Pants Advice Please

  • Bella bands/be bands.  You just zip your pants up as far as they go and then slip the band on over it.  It hides the unbutton part and keeps them up. It looks like you're wearing a long tank top.

  • When I was pg with #1 I had a similar issue for awhile.  I ended up getting a Bella Band and wearing it on top of the maternity pants so they'd fit/stay up, it was the most comfortable thing I could figure out for about a month. The other thing is, some maternity pants are 'half panel' and some are 'full panel' (the elastic at the top).  Early on the full panel ones stay up better if you don't have much of a bump.  Are the pants fitting in length and it's just a bump-size issue?

  • I'm not as short as you are, but I feel your petite pain! (5'2" 109 lb at 14w4d pg) For Christmas my mom gave me some great yoga type pants - they have a tie waist band, and since we got them up a size, there is plenty of room for my bump. I also highly reccomend a bella band (I got mine from Target). The picture shows the girl wearing it low, like a small band across the top of her pants, but I stretch it out and wear it over my entire stomach and top of my pants, and thats a lot more comfortable for me. I also finally ordered a pair of pants from Motherhood Maternity - they have petite sizes! I don't know yet how they'll fit, but I'm hoping for the best! HTH!
  • I had/will have this problem too.  Not all maternity pants are created equal.   Have you tried all the different panel/waistband types?   What about a Bella or Bebe Band?  You can get them online or at Target, maybe some maternity stores too.  It's a stretchy spandex band that you can put over the maternity waistbands to keep your pants up as you grow.  I never felt comfortable with my pants unbuttoned but you can also use it to cover up unbuttoned pants as you transition to maternity clothes.
  • I have the same problem.  Mat pants just don't fit, but my regular pants don't fit either.  I found a store that sells "comfort fit" pants that are highly stretchy.  I bought a size up and they have been fitting since about 14 weeks, and will probably do for another month or so!  I LURV them!
  • I have tried ALL invented! haha.  They don't fit anywhere on my body!  I am thinking that that bella band is going to be the best way to go for me at least for a while!  Thanks ladies!
  • from what I've seen.. it's just going to cost us more money. the typical maternity sizes only go down to S.  A few things I've found.... gap has maternity down to size 0.  which seem to be fitting me pretty good at the moment. I also bought a few pairs of work pants from the gap in size 2 (figuring I'm likely to get bigger in places I dont want to!). they are a little big but still wayyy better than a size small from another store.  other than that - designer jeans.. lol which are crazy expensive. old navy and target have xs too. although the targets I've been to have a very limited selection.

good luck! it's tough being tiny with a belly!

  • You could also try buying some non-maternity pants in a size or two larger than your normal size.  I was having in-between issues, too, especially with jeans, so I went to Charlotte Russe and found a couple pairs of jeans for like $19 each - I just bought a size or two bigger than my normal.  I figure I can also wear them after the baby when I'm back to the in-between stage.
