Toddlers: 24 Months+

XP Breastfeeding #2 if it didn't work with #1??

I Exclusively pumped with DD for 8 months, had a stash for a year.  It worked for us, it wasn't easy, but it worked.

But as things got easier I really would have liked to be able to breastfeed, especially at night and first thing in the morning.

Anyone have it work great with #2?

TIA

  • I was only able to BF/pump for 3 months with my twins.  I am hoping to do better with #3 once he arrives in April.

  • I only BF DS for about 4 months but with DD I was able to BF for almost 8 months...then I got my period and my supply basically tanked
  • My friend did not bf her first (issues with latching I think) and then went on to breastfeed her next two with no problems.  Her second was a NICU baby so she pumped for the first few weeks and then was able to switch over to bfing when the baby was able to be held.

  • I never got a good supply with DD1. Stopped pumping at 1 month.  With DD2 I was pumping way more than I needed and had a freezer stash right from the start.  I ended up stopping after a couple months though, because it was just too time consuming with 1.5yr old and a newborn.
  • pumped for dd (#1) for 6m... then she nursed! until 13m.  she had latch issues.

ds took to the boob ... I did pump some b/c I was freaked out after the weight issues dd had had.  but he didn't care for the bottle after about 1m.  he nurses until he was 15m.

  • Nursed DD for 4 mos, 2 mos exclusively (other 2 supplemented).  With DS, I simply could not keep up with his demand (he's huge and seriously needs bottles in a big gulp size) so ended up supplementing from the start and weaned at a month.  It worked out better for me personally because BFing always stressed me out (which affected my supply) and it was hard with a toddler.

  • Only BF #1 for 6 weeks and BF #2 for 13 mos.  It was great, not every day, but the easy times made it worth it, as did saving $$$ on formula.
