People Keep Saying "I've Dropped..." (PIP)

Since I posted this picture on my Facebook but my doctor told me, two weeks ago, that I had dropped.

Is it possible to have dropped further?

Also... it doesn't mean anything except that the chances of having a successful vaginal delivery are increased, right?  Friends on Facebook keep commenting as though it means labor is right around the corner but this isn't factual, right?

Here's the pic, FWIW...

Re: People Keep Saying "I've Dropped..." (PIP)

  • I posted in the wrong area again.

AGAIN.  Why am I the only person in the world who continues to have this problem?  Deleting feels mean and I value your opinions just as much as the Third Trimester Board's, so... although this is NBR, please offer your insight!

  • Honestly- it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Dropping only allows you to breathe better and makes it harder to walk.

Doesn't give you any better chances of a vaginal delivery and doesn't give you any time table of when labor will begin.

Women with a first pregnancy drop sooner- subsequent pregnancies for some odd reason- don't tend to drop until labor in immenient-

Yep.  Lily was almost falling out the last month I was pregnant and I didn't go into labor until 42 1/2 weeks.

  • I'm growing so impatient... All it takes is a hang-nail, these days, to convince myself I'm in labor.

you could have a very long way to go. A day feels long at the end- so weeks feels like an eternity. So i would suggest busying yourself with something.

  • It does look like you dropped!  Won't be long now!  BTW we are happy to see all your pg posts regardless if we're a SAHM board.  Don't apologize

  • For me personally, I always went into labor shortly after I dropped, but I'm not sure if it's that way for others.
  • I don't even know when I dropped, either the OB never told me or it happened between the last appointment and when I went into labor.  From my pregnancy books I don't remember reading much on dropping, which led me to believe it didn't really mean anything about how much longer.  It's really hard, especially since you don't know when it will happen, but just make sure you have everything ready or you'll end busying yourself during early labor by getting baby stuff read like I did!
  • I don't think I ever dropped.  Or if I did it wasn't noticable to me or anyone else and OB never said anything about it.  I went into labor at 38 weeks.
  • Mixed reviews, again!  :)

I think the part that's really killing me is not knowing when it's going to happen.

Also, I am obsessing with stupid things, as though I am preparing for the apocalypse.

When will it happen?  Will I have enough toilet paper stocked in the house?

This fear then causes me to run out to Costco to grab 36 rolls, when we still have half a package left at home.  Oh, and 25 more lbs. of cat food while I am there - Just to be sure we'll have enough.

I realize I'm being nuts but there's little I can do about it.  Although I am "all ready" for baby - Bags are packed, everything is set up, both in his room and his "annex" room in our bedroom, all clothes are washed, everything has been purchased...

I feel like everything in my life should be caught up before he arrives and trying to make sure that you have everything covered is just nerve-wracking!

    Thanks for letting me share.

    Thank you! :)

  • With DD I dropped right around the time of my baby shower which was 1-2 months before my due date and had to be induced at 40+ weeks.

It does look like you dropped but it doesn't necessarily mean you are going to go soon.

  • I know how you feel.  Those last few weeks, I was just so 'over' the whole thing and just wanted to meet my son.  And I'm one of those people who loved being pregnant too.

Just remember that the longer that he stays in there, the better it is for him (within reason).  He'll come when he's ready.  :)

  • You've definitely dropped, but you're right. It really doesn't mean anything.
  • Looks low to me, but like stacy said, the only diff that made for me was more crotch pain and a little easier to breathe. I never went into labor and she was evicted at 38w4d, so I can't really throw in my 2 cents on if you'll go soon.

GL! The last month of my pregnancy I was just sooo done. Hope your LO comes soon!
