Offering of old baby bassinet

An old friend who is a good friend of my friend wants to know if i want her bassinet that is barely used.  I said yes to be nice and didnt think much of it.  My mom is like tell her No you dont want used things and lie and say I already brought you one.  My Aunt says tell her you want the best for your baby.  I already said yes so kinda dont want to take back her offering , I think that would be rude.  What should I do?

  •  I had a lot of things given to us and some of them I kept and some of them I gave to other prego friends or donated.

  • I think your mom and aunt are being ridiculous. Babies come with a lot of expenses, so if it's something you like and it's safe and it works for you, why not use it? Also, it would be really rude to respond that you only want the best because it would make your friend feel like sh!t when she is the nice person in this equation.

  • Wow. There is nothing better than slightly used condition hand me downs! I welcome the help. Plus a basinet is something you wont even use for long at all. Of course there will b some things you want new but enjoy the hand me downs while you can!!
  • I am loving the hand me downs

  • I would take a lightly used bassinett anyday. Sounds like a great way to Dave money on an item you can't use for that long anyway!

  • Definitely take the bassinet!  I will only get mine used because they get used for such a short amount of time that it is a total waste to spend the full price on them.  Get a new mattress for it if that is what is bothering you--its really easy to buy a new bassinet mattress (alot of them come with crappy mattresses, and people get new ones for them anyway)
  • Take it if YOU WANT IT. There is no written rule that says you must accept hand me downs. I've been given two things already that I politely just took without wanting it, and had to give it away. If you feel the same, don't take something someone thinks is valuable if you aren't going to just love it, kwim?

Hand me downs are nice, but if you are willing to buy your own stuff and can afford it (it would be silly to turn down nice hand me downs if you are strapped to buy your own brand new bassinet), you aren't forced to take peoples offerings.

  • I'm all about hand me downs.  I can understand car seats but I'm all about using hand me downs especially when they are gently used and nothing wrong with them.

I think your mom is being ridiculous!
