XP: Need Advice Re: Delivering Early

I had a post yesterday regarding delivering early.  Again, I delivered DD at 35 weeks.  I had no complications during my pregnancy and it came to me as totally unexpected.  This time around, I asked my OB about my chance of delivering early again.  He said I have a higher chance but didn't seem concerned and won't be doing extra monitoring.  This pregnancy is very similar to my last.  Would you just go with it or push for extra monitoring?  I'm not sure what OBs usually do in this situation.  I know some replied to my post yesterday that they were given p17 injections.  Do ask about this?  DD was in the NICU and I would really like to avoid that again.  Any advice would be appreciated!

  • My DS was born at 34 weeks.  My OB said that this puts me in the high risk category and that she will be monitoring me more closely this time around.  I have an appointment on Monday for a second ultrasound to make sure the pregnancy is progressing.  She said that my cervical length would be checked often.  DS was in the NICU as well.  I would push for extra monitoring and ask about the p17 injections.  This is on my list of questions for monday as well.  GL!

  • I would be persistant. That's just my personality though.  Really, what would some extra monitoring hurt? Absolutely nothing and it would probably help your anxiety about delivering early again.

I delivered DD1 at 38w5d and DD2 at 33w4d. I have already spoken to my OB about what we will do if there is a 3rd LO. He knows that I will be very anxious and is more than willing to accomodate me. I have not yet ask about p17 injections.

I really hope that you have a nice full-term pregnancy!

  • i would absolutely ask about 17p shots, especially since you could start them now. i delivered at 36wk and had PTL starting at 24wk so my OBs were adamant that they thought it would help. March of Dimes has some great info on the shots. You would qualify for them, the only criteria are previous preterm delivery/PTL and that you are currently pg with a single baby.

I've been considered high risk from the beginning and i get my cevix checked at each appt. any time i have concerns (pressure, contractions, etc) they bring me to check things out. i'm happy with the proactive care we are getting so far.
