DS has the worst I've ever seen. teething along with some nights in new overnight diapers that seem to suck. just went back to the huggies overnights to help keep him dry but WHAT on earth can i do about his butt? it hurts to the touch, the skin is so red and raised (not bumpy but more "hard" than soft skin). i am using desitin at night and aquaphor or vasaline during the day. any home remedies out there??

Re: THE WORST diaper rash...any suggestions?
I agree w/ Triple Paste - D had the worst rash he's ever had last week, and Desitin and Aquaphor weren't helping at all. Triple Paste cleared it up, especially when I put it on overnight. Someone also recommended using Baby Gold Bond Powder, but I haven't gotten or tried that yet.
Triple Paste all the way!
My blog
Triple paste has worked for us for really bad diaper rashes, but if it's as bad as you say, it may be more than just a rash. You may want to have the pedi see him...they may be able to prescribe something if it's infected, etc.
Don't use wipes, use warm water and a washcloth. Make sure the area is completely dry and then load up on the triple paste. You can try that first!
Lots of no diaper time, stop using baby wipes and just get him in the tub instead and wash him off gently with warm water and no soap, use a hair dryer on the low/warm or cold setting to thoroughly dry him out completely before putting a diaper back on...
I've even used Lotrimin or Nystatin (anti-fungals) on really bad diaper rash that wasn't clearing up with Desitin (our go-to diaper cream, the others never worked for us!). It took a few days to clear up but it worked. GL, diaper rash sucks!
We switched to Boudreaux Butt Paste on the rec of tons of friends after he got a nasty rash. My pedi recommended Aquaphor but it just wasn't preventing.
If DS gets a nasty rash I give him baths evertime he poops (which is A LOT) and let him airdry. I let him run around without a diaper for about 20 minutes. Yeah, it's a risk but we've only had one or two accidents.
I recently bought Aveeno bath soak that's especially for diaper rashes. I haven't tried it yet but wanted to have it on hand just in case.
ETA: if we have to use wipes for some reason (like we are out and can't bathe him if he poops) we rinse out the wipes to get all the product out.
1. rinse out wipes in sink to get chemicals out.
2. Air dry and/or blow dryer on cool setting so butt is TOTALLY dry.
3. Tons and tons and tons and TONS of diaper cream (we use Boudreaux's Butt Paste but honestly anything with high zinc works). Apply almost "too much"...most gets "lost" in diaper so the more the better. I'd use an 1/8 of a tube for just one change when the rash is severe.
I put neosporin on it first, then the Corona paste. It is amazing. It's mostly lanolin and some other stuff. It works great.
Calmoseptine is the best diaper cream I've ever used. Just read reviews for it. It was rec by my pedi and I highly reccommend it.

Wash his bottom in the sink with water and baking soda (is neutralizes the acid in the poo and balances the skin ph) let air dry complely and use neosporin and diaper cream of choice.
good luck!
DD had a really bad rash at her last dr appt and the pedi gave us a prescription for a cream (sorry don't remember what it's called) because she said DD also had a yeast infection. We put the cream all over the rash and it worked great.
The pedi told us to alternate using a cream for one diaper change and cornstarch for the next. The cornstarch kept her very dry and worked great.
