3rd Trimester

Whiny Post: Short girls come on in! Horrible ribcage pain:...(

I am only 29 weeks, and over the past few days the pressure in my ribcage has grown more and more painful:(  She has grown right up to my boobs and it feels like crushing pain...  My upper back is also feeling the effects.  Seriously, I have 11 weeks to go and this baby is going to double or triple in weight.  I plan to work up until DD, but now I have no idea how I will manage!  I am 5'3 so not terribly short, but have a short torso and am carrying unusally high.  I wonder when and if she'll drop a bit?  I wonder if there is anything I can do other than take Tylenol to ease the pain?

Anyone else?

  • I'm the same height and had more problems around 28-29 weeks than I do these days. No sure if LO borrowed down lower or what but I did try pressing a cold object on the skin up there to discourage her from hanging from my ribs. Changing positions sometimes helped me, too. I had that type of pain the most when I was riding in the car with DH. If I reclined the chair a bit it seemed to help. Good luck!

  • I am 5'0" and just feel uncomfortable all over at this point.  I can't even sit and keep my legs closed - no more skirts for me!  I'm just waiting for my boss to give me the side eye for wearing jeans or black yoga pants every day to work...

  • The only thing that helps me is sitting up very strait, and a pillow behind my back on the couch.
    Effing crazy people.
  • I am 5'1 and have a short torso as well. My baby has her head lodged into my right ribs and I am definitely feeling uncomfortable especially when sitting...I plan to work up until my DD as well, but it helps that I dont have a desk job and am up walking around quite a bit during the day...I hope that your baby will drop for you soon..
  • My back has all of a sudden began to hurt, I have trouble breathing when I just sit here and type or take a shower or talk on the phone and I have begun to take a lot pee trips....I am going to be miserable when I am full term! just miserable!
  • I am right there with you. I am 5'1 and pre-pregnancy weighed 110llbs. This baby has no where to go other than my ribs. I have found that if I walk around the house for a few minutes I can get her to "drop". It only lasts about an hour but that hour is heaven.
  • yup! short (5'1" here) and sore!! poor ribs...
  • I'm 5' on a good day, so I sympathize. For me, it hasn't gotten any better. LO is in an unstable lie, so he flips between breech, transverse, and vertex. His head is currently in my diaphragm. If your LO is head-down, you'll find some relief once he/she drops. With DS and DD it was a noticeable difference; it felt like I could finally breathe. This may sound silly, but if you have a bathtub, fill it pretty high and try to roll over onto your belly. The water lets you float a bit and takes a lot of the pressure off of your ribcage. I've been doing this every night and it feels really good.

  • I'm 5'3" and I have constant rib cage uncomfortableness!  But my LO's Butt is there, not head.  I usually put a cold pack or package of frozen veggies there & it helps.  It feels good & LO will shift slightly, so it's win-win.

  • i'm 5'2 and pretty uncomfy all over now. i haven't taken any painkillers through my pregnancy so i'm just kinda suffering through it. i think you just need to switch things up... if you've been sitting for a while, get up and walk, if you're standing for a while, sit or lay down or try stretching a bit... i don't think there's any real relief from being uncomfortable until you have a baby-less belly!

  • I'm 5'3" and my LO is frank breech so her head AND feet are up in my ribs. It's super uncomfortable and my back is feeling the effects as well. My c-section is scheduled for next Thursday so I just keep telling myself one more week, one more week!!!

  • I'm also short - but baby's head has been head down pretty much from early 2nd trimester.  However he/she loves to kick me in the ribs on the right side which is very weird.  Also, my baby's head is very very low down, according to my midwife.  This has caused me to have sharp stabbing sensations that are very intense, especially when he/she turns over.

  • I am 5 ft even and also carried pretty high. I was REALLY uncomfortable for a long time. I think she dropped somewhere around 32-34 weeks and I could finally breathe:)...good luck.
  • I'm 3 inches taller then you, but I'm having major upper back pain. I guess I have a short torso or something.  I know I'm carrying high though (everyone tells me I am).  My lower back is perfectly fine (surprisingly).  And my rib cage has been really painful especially after I eat a meal.  The only way to make it feel better is to lay down or kind of lean way back on my chair.  I wish I could make my upper back feel better.  I refuse to take any pain meds.  I've started to take a yoga class, so maybe that will help??  I sure hope so at least.

  • It hurts sooo bad.... I know! ...  I have dropped and I hate to day it but I still feel auful. The ribcage pain has been my worst pregnancy wo. I use icepacks under my bra.. It helps while there in there. Try that.

  • I've been having the same issue since about 25 weeks or so. I'm carrying extremely low and it still friggin' hurts. All of the pain is on my left side though, front AND back. :( My mom keeps telling me to try warm baths, but I haven't yet...

  • The last two weeks have been pretty hard on my ribs. I went to the Dr. today and my MW said his butt is wedged right in my rib cage! I feel movement on the right side of my ribs all the time and if I slouch at all it's pretty uncomfortable.
