Sanitizing baby bottles, pacifiers, nipples...etc.

I've been trying to look up a proper way to sanitize these items, but have found a bunch of different versions. I was wondering what way you did yours or how you recommend to do it. I do not have a dishwasher, so they will have to be done by hand. I also saw the microwaveable ones but they didn't seem very popular and wasn't sure if I'd use it very often so I didn't register for one and didn't buy one. Thanks for the help!!

  • A lot of times, I would put the bottles, nipples, and such in a pot of water and boil them on the stove. Then I would air dry them on the drying rack.

I don't have any experience with the microwave sanitizer. I didn't get a warm and fuzzy feeling when I looked at them.

  • i boiled water and used tongs to dunk nipples/pacifiers for a little while.... i think it was like 5 seconds or something (dont remember but looked it up online).  i was afraid to do dishwasher b/c of the soap (which may be stupid but i wasnt sure).  we do have a microwaveable bottle sanitizer but i think im going to return it..... we're using playtex drop ins so all that will really need cleaned are the nipples and i think i can manage that :)

  • Boiling is an option for you.  My sis used a Germ Doctor and she loves it.  That's probably what I'll be using.
  • I'm using the microwaveable, SIL and several other good friends raved about it, especially for late night feedings when you forget to stove- top sterilize.

You can get an electric sterilizer or just do what the above poster does.  Sterilizing them in a pot of boiling water for about 10 minutes works perfectly.

  • just boil all of the parts in water for 5 minutes before you first use them, maybe less.  then they can go in the dishwasher/hand wash.

This. We got the Born Free bottles, and this is what the directions on the packaging said to do. Wash in hot, soapy water. Then sterilize in boiling water for 5 minutes before first use. After that, they can just be hand washed or put in dishwasher.
